Bread, Rice & pasta?

Recommended Posts

My Dr. says no bread, rice or Pasta, but my nutritionist is trying to tell me I should be able to handle these items now. I was banded on July 28. What does your Dr say about bread, rice & pasts?

My dr. never said anything about that he sends me to the nutrionist which is with his office she said its fine just whole week Pasta and breads. I eat a little bit of all of it and as long as I chew well I can eat a little bit of all of it. The bread has to be toasted really really well for me to eat that. Hope that helps a bit.

Hi there!

My doctor and nurse, etc... told me to take it easy on carbs.... bread should be toasted and rice and Pasta should be limited amounts and chewed VERY well...

Good luck!

See I was never told to limit my carbs just stay in the limit of the calories and I seem to be losing ok doing that. I will be 5 months out on the 3rd of Oct. and have lost almost 45lbs. That is good for me... As long as I exercise and are careful with my calories it seems to be doing the trick. Everyone is different with carbs and I def. think you should do what your dr. recommends. Just like sometimes I see people on here that were told they can drink soda and I was told never soda again for the rest of my life. It all depends on your dr.

My doc was all about balanced meals. The main part of the meal should be Protein, then vegies, then carbs (about 1/4 cup).

Personally, I have to avoid bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes and flour products. I crave constantly when I'm eating them. When I eliminate them from my diet, I'm never hungry or craving.

I bet your doc is saying "don't eat these for weight loss purposes", rather than you can't have them because of the band (which is why your nutritionist is saying you can add them).

Some people low carb their way through weight loss (that's my plan since it works for me), but others still do pasta/bread/etc. in moderation and also lose. You might need to figure out what works best for you and what you can tolerate by trial and error. A good first step would be to just ask your doc next time why he says that and then you'll be able to make an informed decision with him/her.

My stomach and the band make the rules for me on this one. I can not eat any Pasta, bread, rice... It will only cause much discomfort. When this is how things are it doesn't matter what the NUT or Dr. say. The stomach is boss.

I can tolerate, so far, bread, Pasta and rice. My dr is and I am all about moderation. He wants me to eat as normal as possible. I was banded on 8/27 and have lost 19lbs so far. I'm very happy with that. I also know there may be a time when I can't eat those things so I am enjoying them now...in moderation. Moderation is key

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
