I finally decided to go through with getting the surgery. i was nervous about getting it done. i had put it off for over a year knowing that it could help Me just didn't want to go under. after getting a job i the city and learning that one of my CO workers had it done i saw her everyday living was normal with a few minor changes but nothing drastic. Even the area I live in people had it done. i guess the more i tried dieting and watching what i ate along with exercising and really seeing no big results ui deiced to make the appointment to meet with the Dr and keep them this time. After meeting the Dr and going through the pros and cons i was convinced to do it and make this lifestyle change. i am a diabetic and to be off my medication one number one priority for me besides loosing weight. this really was the last straw for me since i feel like Ive tried everything. after meeting the Dr and getting ready to start the liquid diet i had a lot of support with family, friends and co workers. i thought the pre surgery liquid diet was so painful. as it is i could not have started it at a worst time. those 10 days prior to surgery i was surrounded by food with bridal showers weddings and engagements. luckily i survived those Protein Shakes were heavy but filling. a day or 2 before surgery it was getting a little hard but i kept telling my self only 2 days to go you can do it. then surgery day came and i was excited to finally getting my life turned around. i met with the Dr before going into the room to discuss things of how i would feel after surgery. then off i went to the OR. after surgery i felt fine no pain i was able to walk around and drink with everything going down so i could go home. it really is true what they say about not being hungry. however that should er pain that everyone talks about is really true it last for about 5 days and before you know it its gone. the liquid diet post surgery was good i wasn't hungry i just kept telling myself to keep hydrated. finally 10 days pass and on to mushy foods. i was so excited to eat regular food or the start of it. it went by really fast. there is one thing that i noticed is that you get hungry at the weirdest time of day. i would have a shake for Breakfast around 1030 and then i wouldn't get hungry till about 600 sometimes. i guess i still have to figure out a time schedule to this eating. the 10 days starting solid food is what i am in now. this phase seems to be like a science experiment because im trying everything to see what agrees and what doesn't agree so far so good. I think the real test is going to be once i get my first tightening. i also want to recommend the book "Fighting Weight by Khaliah Ali" it is definitely very inspirational and helpful with the tips they give you along your way to figuring out how to live with this new life change. I cant believe its been a month since prepping for surgery that i lost over 20lb this quickly. however they say that once you go on the solid food phase that it is normal to put on a few pounds because you are wide open and are starting to eat like a semi normal person again but that as soon as you get tighten the weight falls right off again and you are really starting your active weight loss. i cant weight to get my first tighten in about 2 weeks.

also sometimes i have the urge to munch i try and chew gum but that doesn't quiet do it all the time but yet at the same time i'm not even hungry to put food in my system i have the full sensation any advise?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
