Four Weeks Post-op and Hungry!!

Recommended Posts

Kim, I just noticed your stats again. Have you had only 2 fills? My doctor told me about one pt. who's just having her first one year after surgery! She's been losing this whole time!

bbammom,

My kids are on holidays but i'm not.

Went for a walk at lunch time today to avoid the lunch time work talk but the biggest offender decided to walk with me, it was good though cause i walked faster so she had to breath instead of talk , so got a good brisk 20 minutes in. My daughter loves hiking through the bush, don't know whether i'm up to that yet.

Good to see another August 30 bander at the same stage as us. I wore a shirt to work today that i have never been able to do up before. Hooray! Little by little we will reach our goals.

Welcome lml398. I have only lost 5 kilo post op and the scales haven't moved for a couple of weeks now but people are starting to comment so i must be loosing inches, from other posts that seems to be something that happens - a mystery as to why the inches disappear while the weight stays stable at times.

I am so glad I read this today, I really needed it! I am 4 weeks post op today and I am SO HUNGRY! I have also noticed that I can eat the full 6 oz of food and still not feel satisfied. I went to dinner last night for my anniversary and had 1/2 a salad with dressing on the side, 4oz of very moist steak, and 3 shrimp. I was full but I didn't have the pain in my shoulder I probably should have had and I felt like I could have eaten the rest of the steak! I have an appointment tomorrow for my first fill, which I am so glad for! I have still lost weight, down 13 since surgery and 54 total. I just feel like I am spiraling down and I am hoping that my adjustment tomorrow will help!

BB,

Studies prove that women who eat 1200 calories a day will lose weight faster and more consistently than those who drop below. A bonus is that you get enough food so you don't feel hungry.

I also eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 because it keeps my blood sugar stable. Since I'm eating (or drinking a Protein shake) every 2.5 hours, that also keeps the hunger at bay.

I was fortunate, my doc didn't expect me to eat only 1 cup of food at a meal before I had restriction but did advise using some restraint (not pigging out) and making good choices.

Hi all ,

I went and had my 1st fill.It was weird, they couldnt find my port so they were poking around for awhile,Its not painful just a weird feeling like u can feel the liquid going through.

The doc said iam going really well and 8kilos is great 4 weeks post op.I have to be on liquids for 3days after fill then mushies for 3 and then normal.I was feeling quite queasy after the fill for a few hours but after then was as normal.

I also saw the dietitian and said just keep doing what im doing but i have to add more carbs into my diet. Also said dont be scare for having bread(not white doughy),cracker, rice and Pasta.Just 1/2cup at a time.Try it and if it doesnt go down try it again. All in all feeling pretty good but not liking the liquids for 3 days Iam so damn hungry!!!

Hope everyone is doing great and iam definitly feeling more positive about everything.

OH and i also got the all clear to start exercising just limit situps if it hurts. So im going to join my gym down the road and start working my bum off (literally)

I'm amazed and reassured how close our stories are!! It sounds like everyone is doing pretty well.

JanB23 - I hope you're having an easier week then I am! I'm still so hungry and now nothing seems to bother me (lettuce and fruit did before). I just keep counting down the days until my fill on Tuesday. The good news is, is that I haven't gained weight. Actually I lost a pound, finally!! When do your children return to school? Awesome on the walking and the shirt. I've had the best time with clothes!! So far I've donated over 40 pounds of clothes and more are being picked up tomorrow!!

jlw929 - Glad you joined us. We all seem to be in the same boat! When was your surgery date? When is your first fill?

lml398 - Thanks for the fill info. I haven't heard of liquids for the first few days. I'll be interested if my doc says the same thing. It does make sense. Thanks for the pain gauge...I, for one, wondered if it would be painful. I'm not afraid of needles and I don't like watching, but I might this time out of curiosity! Keep us updated on how you're doing. It sounds all good!!

ElfiePoo - Interesting on your eating b/c my surgeon says 3 meals a day and my nutritionist says 6 small meals. I feel better with the 6.

Wishing everyone a great upcoming weekend!

Hello, I have been reading all the posts but have never replied. I was banded on 8/25/10 and don't seem to have any restriction yet. I have been able to eat everything I did before surgery, although I have been trying to make better choices. I can't wait until my first fill on Oct. 15. I am not sure how much weight I have lost because I am afraid to weigh myself. I think I may have lost a few pounds though. I also live in Hawaii so I have no excuses for not walking more.

Aloha, Kaylee5682!

We were banded just 5 days apart. I had mine done at TAMC. How about you? You don't have any restriction yet, most doctors leave the band empty until the first fill. I see my surgeon on Tuesday and I'm pretty confident he'll do my first fill. Like you, I have an appetite, sometimes more than before surgery. I walk almost every day, usually in the later part of the afternoon. Which side of the island do you live on?

Aloha Bbammom, I had my surgery at Kaiser in Moanalua. I live on the east side, What side do you live on. I have to wait until October 15 for my first fill. I feel so guilty eating normal food, even though I have been trying hard to stay healthy. I have been eating bread and steak with no problems. My doctor said not to worry, we will eventually fix it so I can’t have any bread. I can't wait!!!

I have been walking 2 miles at least three days a week, but I want to increase it two 5 day a week.

Wow, you have been doing great with your weight loss. How is your skin doing, is it tightening up? I am so worried that my skin will not shrink. Yesterday, I bought a lotion that is suppose to help tighten your skin. I paid $55, so I hope it works.

Let me know how your first fill goes:thumbup:

I have taken Elfiepoo's advise and upped my calories a bit and have started to loose again - about 1.5 kilo this week. Last night i was really hungry and for the first time i ate until i was full - fish and about 1/2 a cup of vegies - but still wanted to eat more. This happened all the time before my band, i would be really full but still wanted to eat more, i am concerned it has started again. I hope i get a fill on the 5th, not sure if i will or not.

Tonight we went out to dinner and i had a small serve of risotto - not the best choice but i am still supposed to be on soft foods. I didn't over eat but am still feeling full 3 hours later. I will need to go for a really long walk tomorrow, just as well we are set for a nice day.

We have a long week end with a forecast for warm clear weather so i am looking forward to lots of outdoor activities.

Kaylee5682,

I get that guilty feeling too! I just keep reminding myself that once the fill is in, things will rapidly change! In the mean time, my husband and I are going out for dinner tonight. My surgery was right before our anniversary last month as we never went out. I told him it's best to go now because once the saline goes in, I might not want to go out for a while!

I'm central O'ahu, in Mililani. The TAMC program has walks on a different base every week. Maybe you'd like to join us one day. They also have a support group on Mondays but I teach so I can't make those. Does Kaiser have one? I was going to check them and Queens to see if either has an evening support group.

As far as loose skin...it's not too bad, not too great either. I can see it a bit under my chin and stomach, a little in the upper legs. I'm hoping that once I can exercise at the gym to help all that along! Of course, I'm older than you so you might have it better than me! Let me know what you think about the lotion. I'm curious.

JanB23,

I took that same advice! I'm up to about 1000-1200 calories, with the exception of yesterday. I'm PMSing and was starving all day. I was really worried about adding up my calories but I'm glad I did. I didn't do nearly as bad as I had thought with 1333 calories for the day. It seems high to me right now but 6 months ago that might have been my mid-day total!!

I'm hoping to get out a lot this weekend. We've had lots of rain over the past two days but this afternoon looks nice. My husband and I are going to dinner while our youngest are at a friend's house. I think we'll be able to get in a walk before or after dinner! We're usually pretty active on weekends and I'm ready to do more now that I feel better. I can't wait to get the OK to go to the gym!!

Aloha New Friends!

I thought it might be fun to share some tips. I'll start...

* I really like using SparkPeople.com to log my food.

* I've been putting Vitamin E on my surgery scares and they seem to be fading nicely. I don't really expect to ever wear a bikini but just in case...

So glad I found this thread. I had surgery on 09/11 and have not had a fill yet. The past few days I have been so hungry, that I wake up at night, nauseous. I upped my calories as well. Will be between 1300-1400 today. My next appointment is on 10/15-hopefully will get my first fill. I feel much better eating 6 little meals as well to keep my blood sugar stable, even though my nutritionist says to eat 3 meals and a snack. Thanks for all the ideas.

missjoany,

Interesting that my surgeon says 3 meals a day and my nutritionist says 6 smaller means. I'm inclined to agree with the 6 smaller meals because it makes me feel better.

I surgery was on 8/30 and my first fill is this week on 10/5. I am SO ready because I've been struggling with hunger for about a week and a half. Reading the posts here as really helped me get through "bandster hell!"

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
