Couch to 5K...anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

I had a client tell me about this Couch to 5K. Has anyone done it/or doing it? I'm 2 months into my 6 month pre-op medically supervised diet and feel it's time to literally get off the couch and start doing something.

I absolutely LOVE C25K! I'm getting ready to re-start it, I did it a few years ago when I was training to run a 5K with some other nurses at work who were all skinny and fit and I needed some extra help!

Its all interval training so it will tell you to run for a minute then walk for two. Then the next week you will run for two minutes then walk one... so you get the drift. It gradually builds your endurance and is GREAT for people who are just getting into exercise.

I was planning on giving this a try when I get healed from my surgery :smile2: I think I saw a thread about this on the exercise forum too

I am at the end of Couch to 5K; I only have the last 45 minute run to do and I'm done! I'm moving on to training for a half marathon in December. Though the program does take effort, for me it has been a very gradual, easy way to work up to running a few miles nonstop.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
