Did any get bad hiccups after the surgery?

Hi:

Hiccups or burping are one of my suttle "full" signals. You might want to listen to your body next time they start and see if that's the message it's trying to tell you.

Best wishes to you fellow bandster.

Sue

I too get the hiccups when I eat. Most of the time it is my body telling my I'm full. Occassionally it is just a signal to slow down. But, either way, it is important to listen to what it is trying to say to you.

I haven't had anything but a few sips of Water since my surgery yesterday.

Hmmm...I wouldn't worry too much unless they just never ever stop. That would just be annoying!! Good luck!

Maybe only having a few sips of Water is what's causing the hiccups. Didn't your doctor recommend more than just Water? Your body can't heal well if you don't give it some nutrition.

Newbie I hope things work out with you and your band!

I'm 5 day post op. No hiccups but gas and indigestion. Try gas x it really does help. Walk around some. Sounds like u need to eat as far a trying some warm broth or something

I am having a hard time keeping anything down. I believe that My stomach is to swollen to allow anything through the band.

After my surgery I got hiccups all the time, and I still get them when my body is telling my I have had enough. You do need to be taking in more liquid though by now. You are correct your stomach is probably swollen, that is why my Dr. told me to only take in COLD liquids at first, Popcicles, sugar free Jello, and sorbet/Italian ice were my friend, the cold helps reduce the swelling, eventually you can move to room temperature liquids but I don't think I was allowed anything "warm" for something like 2 weeks.

I don't know what hiccups indicate for me, because I get them all the time, at least once a day. It is usually after I eat, but I don't drink with meals and I don't overeat. I'm so scared of vomiting that I really have been taking things slow.

Hiccups I thought were common to banded patients.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
