I agree with Trish. I've ramped up my exercise which includes some strength training and my pants are loose but I have only lost 1 lb. I think that you convert some of the fat pounds to muscle and muscle weighs more than fat, but building more muscle also helps your metabolic rate because you burn more calories while resting.

Wow...I just rambled there, but you get the point.

Yes...I have and I don't exercise. I think at some point though the scales catch up to the inches.

Yes, absolutely possible! Presurgery I had a couple weeks where I was plateauing even though I was on a modified liquid diet and doing an hour of cardio a day. I tried on a shirt that had been two small a few weeks earlier and it was now to big at the hips. So even though the scale said I was not loosing pounds I was loosing size. I really need to buy a sewing tape measure so I can do some measurements; as I have been plateauing but my clothes are getting looser.

Over time, I have noticed a correlation between pounds and inches lost. But that doesn't mean they consistently come off together.

At times when my weight has plateaued, it's very common for me to see my measurements go down. Sometimes, the body just needs time to regroup and redistribute a little--then loss resumes.

(OTOH, I don't think that most people who aren't seeing a general downward trend in weight see much of a downward trend in inches--you have to be doing something to see the change. Eating properly, but plateaued, or exercising, or something to promote the loss.)

I think its a bit of redistribution.

Because if you think about it logically, if you lose fat from your body, that HAS to show on the scale. And contrary to popular belief, women, and even men, dont gain pounds of muscle quickly. A couple of pounds of muscle added to your body over and entire YEAR would be really great going for a woman trying to lose weight.

So short term, losing inches but not pounds does happen, but long term no.

I went about two months losing mostly inches- down two clothing sizes actually- but not much on the scale.. This past week I have lost almost a pound a day but no inches so who knows how it works LOL

Yeppirs...that scale is an odd thing! It can stay completely still and yet I can see the inches disappearing...and I don't work out, BTW...tho I need to! I am not sure what the trick is...if someone figures it out I think they'd be rich!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
