Friend says she has 11 cc's in a 15 cc band...

Recommended Posts

I have a question. A banded friend of mine has lost 50 pounds with another 50-75 to go. She said she has 11 cc's in a 15 cc band and that she had good restriction for a while but now she has much less and she's going back in for another fill.

It may wonder a few things. First off does some of the Fluid ever evaporate? I mean if they put in 10 cc and you don't ever get it filled again in 12 months time will it still have 10 cc's in it?

Is it possible to feel a band as full as it will get and still not have restriction?

I'm just curious. I go for my first fill tomorrow so I really don't know much about it yet.

It's my understanding that while the Fluid does not evaporate or anything, as we lose weight, our bodies change. There can be less tissue pressing against the stomach, etc. So what was once perfect restriction can change over time and we may need a little more fill later on in the process.

Also, according to a book I perused, it's possible for a small amount of air to leak out of the band through the port, creating a slightly different feel.

Bandsters can be very sensitive to extremely small changes. I've heard people describe how .1 CC can make all the difference -- one tenth of a CC. That's a tiny amount.

So to me, the moral of the story is never give up. The "miracle" of proper restriction is always possible. It can take some finessing, but it's WORTH IT!!!

Everyone is different. I know someone with 3.6 cc with a 10cc band and needs to go get an unfill because she barely can keep Water down and on the other hand I have 8cc in my 10cc and I can still eat normally, i just eat less and stay full longer then before I had the band. You dont lose Fluid but as you lose weight you will most likely need to get a small fill to get you back to where you were.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
