Pre-Op Appt.-What to expect

Recommended Posts

So my surgery date is approaching very quickly! It is weird to think that 1 week from now I will be in surgery! My surgery is next Monday, September 27th! I am so nervous, scared, excited, anxious, and every other emotion that there is.

On Wednesday I go in for "Pre-Op Day" I was told that I will be there all day....What is going to happen? What do they do during this time?

Thanks :]

Wow- all day is a long time. I had 2 different type of preops- one was at the hospital where they took blood, checked vitals, made sure my pcp had sent everything in they were suppossed to and did a chest x-ray. I also had a few hours of a preop class. They went over what to expect on surgery day and the first couple weeks after.

My pre op was just a quick chat with the doctor to ask any last minute questions and then I went to the hospital for blood work, EKG and paperwork.

Good Luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
