At my two week post op visit my surgeon said I could have Reg coffee. I would be careful not to use a straw for ice coffee.

This just goes to show that everybody's surgeon and support staff are different! I have been drinking iced tea since two days after my surgery, coffee since a week after surgery. Yesterday was the two week point. In fact, my nutritionist encouraged coffee (or some hot tea) in the morning to loosen up the muscles near the band and the stomach. I have also been told that the "no drinking through a straw" thing is a myth, and I have been comfortably drinking through a straw since day one. Every one is different, everyone has different instructions, I guess. Good luck, and I bet you would be okay with a small coffee right now.

Caffeine was green-lighted at six months for me. I gave up coffee preop, and haven't gone back. I do however drink iced tea (and did so, on occasion, well before I was "allowed").

I gave up caffeine back when I started my pre-op diet. Figured if I was going to go through the carb withdrawals, that I would go through the caffeine one at the same time. Now having said that, I was told caffeine whenever I wanted it. I drink my coffee and iced tea de-caf now.

Most Drs dont recommend having caffeine for the simply fact that it helps dehydrate your body. And as we all know having the band in we are recommend to have 8 glasses of Water a day for hydration purposes. Drinking with a straw however is a touchy subject because i have personnaly felt the effects of the gassy feeling after drinking with a straw so i stay away from it.

This is the first I have heard of this straw thing. I cut my coffee intake from 3 cups per morning down to 1 cup.

My doc says no coffee till 2 months post-op. I gave it up during the preop diet phase so I would not have the withdrawal on top of recovery. I am now allowed to drink coffee again and drink one cup in the a.m. (started Monday!). I thought I might not go back to it, however, i really do enjoy it!

I'm another one whose doctor had no restriction on caffeine...I live on iced tea, Starbucks, etc. and have since my surgery.

I'm NOT allowed to drink carbonation (it inflates the pouch)...and faced the consequence of acid reflux in a band that was too tight last week when I ordered and drank a large Diet Coke from Burger King. Carbonation doesn't seem to be an issue in looser bands, but WATCH OUT when your band is tight! That acid reflux is murder...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
