Dr. Samuel Wasser - Not very lap-band friendly

Recommended Posts

Sorry but I went to see him and he wouldnt even DISCUSS the Lap-band with me. He said someone of my size would only have results with the Sleeve or traditional by-pass surgery. When I told him I didnt believe in rewiring of body systems he got rather snarky with me and when I also pointed out that after 3-4yrs studies have shown the Band and the Bypass weight losses to be asbout equal with the only difference being you dont lose it all in the 1st 18months witha Band as you would with a Bypass. That seemed to absolutely tick him off and he said we had nothing more to discuss then and I said well if he wouldnt do it then who would? He half spat a name at me and left. He is a cut guy all the way and wants to have the people with the fastest weight loss for his walls/meetings. Sorry but its MY body and no one is going to force me into a procedure I dont want!

How much do you have to lose? I weighted 251 on the day of surgery and now 14 months later I am at 75 lbs lost. I might had done gastric bypass if I had the money, but I think the sleeve has pretty much the same loss as the band. Go to a different Doctor and get what you want. My doctor told me I would lose all my weight with gastric bypass and about 50% excess weight with band so I am passed that and still going so I think you should check out a nice Doctor. I used Dr Spivak in Houston and he has been great.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
