I got denied

Recommended Posts

Yeah. ESPECIALLY if they have indicated that they WOULD cover the RNY surgery. If they will do that, then they SHOULD do the Band. I swear I think the insurance companies deny EVERYONE the first time, just to weed out the people who aren't really committed to the idea.

I would get a doc that you feel positive about and start over. The tests can probably be copied to him/her and then you can have the new doc submit again. BE SURE they use the new Lap Band CPT Code. It is posted in the Insurance forum.

Good Luck!!

Trop, you say self-pay isnt an option. Most of us who were self-pay didnt have the cash readily available. I took out a loan for $15,000. I'd been wanting a new car (my current auto is 10 years old) but realized that getting healthy is the best investment I can make.

There are finance companies catering to health/beauty surgery. Monthly payments depend on how long a payback period you select. And you can qualify even if your credit isnt great; your interest rate will be higher but the surgery is worth every penny.

I'm a grad student. I live solely off of financial aid. I have no assets and getting a job, even part time, isn't an option right now. I could get more financial aid money but I'm already $60K in the hole. No need to add to it. If i can't get insurance to cover it, I will have to lose weight the traditional way. :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
