Discomfort when inhaling (in chest area)

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I was banded earlier this week ( September 7th ) and that night was the absolute worst night. I had severe gas in my abdomen....and could not burp nor pass gas. I was up from about 10:30pm to 3:00 am (with my husband ready to take me to the ER), however, I manage to find comfort in sitting upright in an office chair.....finally drifting to sleep. About 3 hours later, when I had awaken.....the bloating was gone! Thank Goodness!... I eventually begin to pass the gas, however, I notice while breathing in......there tend to be some discomfort.......Has anyone else had this problem?I am beyond paranoid! Thanks.

I totally had that problem the first week or so. It also hurt to sneeze and cough. You just got poked and prodded inside near your lungs and you are most likely swollen inside from it. If it gets worse or gets hard to breathe call your doctor.

I was banded the same day as you and yes I feel that too.

Mine comes and goes randomly. When it happens to me, I take shorter shallow breaths until it passes. Gas x should help break it up. Walking around helps A LOT! Also, you can have your hubby rub your back to help move the gas, I found that it helps me. Just up and down on the sides of the spine, for a few minutes.

Ohh and hiccups are dreadful! OUUUUCCHHHHH have you experienced that yet? I had the hiatal hernia repaired too so I think thats what hurting when I hiccup!

Hang In There! Good Luck!

Hello! I was banded on Sept. 2nd, and I had a follow up a couple of days ago. I actually asked my doctor about this, because my daughter and I like to sing, loudly, in the car. I can't even get through a verse. It is actually even better after a couple of days. He explained that, since the band is actually under the breast plate, it puts pressure on the diaphram (SP?) and that is why it is so uncomfortable to take deep breaths. Anyway, I hope it gets better for you. Good luck!

I have been having the same problem. I take a few deep breaths when I feel like I am breathing shallowly because of the discomfort. I do it purposely because I don't want to even chance pneumonia, which is exactly what it feels like to breathe with lungs full of Fluid, but it is just swelling and well, having something new in you. If you have trouble breathing and taking deep breaths and have a fever and congestion, go to the doc ASAP! Your body is NOT ready for getting sick yet.

gas-x and covered ice packs worked wonders and that discomfort is minimal.

Today I was out of breath singing at church too.

Yes, I had the same thing for the first week to 2 weeks...it will go away..just take it easy and if for some reason it doesnt call and see your doctor..I had a really tough first week and finally called the doctor because I wasnt starting to feel better and he ended up taking 2'ccs out of my band..fluid left in there during surgery that wasnt suppose to be there...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
