Total confusion!!!!!

Recommended Posts

ok i had my first seminar this past tuesday! i was so excited i had my lap band journey i made all ready to go, eager to take notes. however i must say my seminar did NOT go like i thought it would. the nurse who did the sem for the surgeon was kinda anti lap band, she was more team gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. so needlesss to say i left there confused. i mean before attending i had join LBT and chatted and read many forums to help me so the question lays do i listen to a healthcare pro who says the failure right is like 80% with alteast a two year wait time to lose the weight, where life after being banded is the hardest and if you dont excerise atleast 10 hours a week at best you could hope for is only losing MAYBE 4 pounds a month!! or do i lay my faith in you guys, the people who have travelled down the road and say this IS the best thing you have ever done. so im calling all you banders out there to help me please.. tell me that its all ok and this nurse is nuts lol btw i have another sem next wed with a different surgeon, hoping this one goes much better!!!

me personally i would go to the other seminar. she sounds slightly off her rocker lol. when i went to my seminar they explained ALL of the diff surgeries and weren't biased on one or the other. everyone looses weight at diff paces but i've never heard that you have to exercise that much in a month. yes exercising does help the weight come off faster but i don't exercise all the time and it's coming off just fine. trust your gut and do what you think is best for YOU!! good luck! if you have any questions send me a mssg and i'll try to answer them.

I would have serious concerns with a Dr who recommends GB for a 26 year old lady who is 230.

Don't close your mind to the sleeve, I think its better for some personalities. I would suggest that you study both the band (here on LBT) and the sleeve on the sister site and choose which one is better for you.

I think the band (and the sleeve) will help you lose 50% of your excess weight if you decide to "eat the same just less of it". If you want to lose 100% you have to change what you eat and exercise.

If someone loses 50% of their excess weight and they are happy with that, is that a band failure? If they torture themselves to lose 100% and are miserable, is that success? WLS "success or failure" can not be measured by numbers. Its measured by personal perception. Try and pick one that will meet your hopes, dreams, and expectations. Good luck.

thank you so much for yalls help. i think i let the fear take hold of the opinion of this ONE nurse and i should have realized that not everybody is for the LB and thats ok. i have thought long and hard about this since my post, reading peoples forums even visiting the sister site VST and in the words of an awesome chatter i chatted with just 30 mins ago.."when you know you just know". i know LB is for me, i just didnt feel the same security when i read all the forums on the sleeve, even thou they have had great success it just wasnt my path..i feel truly LB is the way for me  thanks for the kind words and encouragement, it was much needed

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
