Date Set for first consult with surgeon

Recommended Posts

I received my referral from my GYN for a TT. Went to referral office to get appt. with surgeon (military hospital). Was told I had to go off base. The next day the base referral office called and said they had an opening next week! I took that appt slot, now just waiting. I had heard from someone on this site that the base will charge you and it can be anywhere from $1800 to $8000!!! Is this true???????

Congrats, I'm anxious to hear how it goes for you. We are stationed here in New Orleans, no military hospital, so that means civilian surgeons!! yes!!!!!

Congrats on the weight loss!

We are retired Military and I have had a couple of major surgeries done by the military. I had a reduction done about 25 years ago and I have had many compliments on the quility of the work! So I have no fear of the military, bsides I have worked for the military hospitals and they pick the best of the crop out of med school.

I don't mean to demean the military physicians, but I work at a large university with a medical school. The military doesn't "pick" them (best/worst or otherwise) after they are doctors. The students enlist to receive tuition benefits long before they are doctors.

Think about it, why would the "very best" want to work for military wages if they don't have to? It's a matter of economics for the students. The ones who can't afford or don't want the debt look for other options to cover their vast schooling expenses.

That's not to say that many who choose that option aren't among the best.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
