How long are you taking off?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting a thread. :couch2: Hope everyone is doing well in their process. I'm getting banded on October 6th and I'm having a hard time deciding on how long to take off from work.

I work at an accounting firm with minimal "manual labor" and I sit at a desk and stare at a computer all day. Since my surgery is on a Wednesday I was thinking of taking the rest of the week off and coming back to work on Monday. My dr said that since I previously had 2 out patient surgeries it shouldn't be a problem for this one to be out patient as well. Also, I remember when I got my gallbladder removed in '08 I took a week and a half off but I was fine to go to work before then...just lazy I guess.

For the people that have been banded can you tell me how long you were out or how long it took you to feel good enough to go back to work?

If you haven't been banded yet I would also like to hear from you...how long are you planning to take off?

Nobody knows I'm getting the surgery..not my boss, co-workers nobody so I want to keep a low profile. :smile2:

THANK YOU FOR READING!!! :blushing:

I'm new at this, too. Hope this reply works. I was banded last Friday, Sept. 3. Today is day 6. I'd hoped to go back to work today, but after getting up and ready, I had such gas pains still that I just couldn't make it. Honestly, though, on a scale of 1-10, pain never got above a 5. liquid children's Asetametaphine works well. (just hard to gag down) Will go back tomorrow. Good Luck.

I'm a teacher so I sit a lot doing class prep and spend some time standing, no heavy lifting etc.

I got my band on a Saturday and went back to work on Monday. It was a little hard getting up and down but once I started moving I felt better. By Wednesday I was back to my normal self.

Welcome and congrats on getting your journey underway!

I took 11 days off but could have gone back after about day 5.

Hi,

I took a week and a half off. I felt better after only about 4 or 5 days. The week and a half helped because after the surgery my body just felt tired for a while. I took a lot of naps while I was out. It was not uncommon for me to take one or two naps a day, and I am normally not a nap type person. I thinks rest really helps with the healing process.

I have a desk job too. I took 2 1/2 weeks, I could have gone back in 1 week, but figured I'd milk it for as long as I could and my doctor basically let me decide when I wanted to return to work.:blushing:

I was banded on a friday and took the whole following week off. I have a job where I sit in front of a computer and microphone so no manual labor. I probably would have been ok to come back after about 4 or 5 days, but would have been sore and tired by the end of the day. I had the vacation time so I took a whole week.

I had surgery on a Friday and was back at work the following Tuesday. Honestly, I probably could have gone back to work on Monday. I had no complications at all.

I'm a bank teller, had surgery on Friday went back to work on Wednesday and left a little early that day. I was really tired that whole week afterwards and should have taken that week off. Everyone knew I had surgery so they were really helpful and understanding, no one wanted me to over do it. The pain wasn't so bad I was just sore and felt weak, my pants were also uncomfortable so I had to wear pants that I would normally only wear at home to work.

Hello I was banded on 08/31 and was out for a week exsactly. I just took the pain killers the 1st 2 days, I follow my docs instructions and walked from the moment I woke up,by Tuesday I felt perfectly fine no pain. I just weight myself and lost another 10lbs, have lost 25 in the last 3 weeks, 15 during the 2 weeks shakes and 10 the week after surgery so excited. You will be fine, just follow the drs instructions.

I myself took many naps, I am still tired, 9 days after surgery.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
