Well I have been researching the LAP-BAND® for quite a while. I have finally got through the consultation with My Surgeon ( Dr. Macik ) and clearance from my PCP, I go for more test (upper GI and Chest Xray) tomorrow. Im starting to get really excited. If all goes as planned, Ill get my band at the beginning of October. I can hardly wait and I think Im starting to get obsessed with reading all of your blogs, threads, etc. I cannot wait, Im a self pay patient and in Atlanta the average cost is around $17k, so this has been a very difficult decision for me to make. I have struggled with the idea of not being sucessful or complications costing me more money. But I am so ready to work hard and get this weight off. I have saved up and there is no better time than now!!! Im only 25 years old and have a 2 year old, I cant wait to be able to get in the floor and play with my kid and actually get back up... :)

Pat yourself on the back for making such a life-altering decision. I am waiting insurance approval. I know how exciting this time can be. This is a very helpful and supportive site! Best wishes!

Congratulations! I have so many fears of being unsuccessful. That's one of the reasons I have told so few people. I returned to work today and and told a few more... it's so hard..

Good Luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
