Post op liquid intake limit?

Recommended Posts

LAP-BAND®® surgery was 8/31/10. I am on Clear Liquids of course. I can drink a cup of tea, etc. like a normally did before surgery. Is this a problem cause I am not consuming only 2-3 ounces at a time? I don't feel bad physically at all after I drink it. Heck, I can't even tell I have a band. I can tell I have the port though and that area is still sore. Also, I have another question, when I start on the pureed foods, will the 3 oz. limit be satisfying or will that happen when I start getting fills?

I'm 2wks out and I can drink as much as I want so long as I take it slow(otherwise I have to deal with nausea).

As for the the question about fullness, I get full(and I mean FULL) on 4oz of pureed foods. I eat 3-4x per day at this point. I've heard that isn't too common though, so I'm waiting for the "bomb" to drop.

I was able to drink broth no problem (8 oz). My doctor says at this staged I should have 3 oz per meal of soft Protein. Calorie wise that is not enough for me. I am doing an hour of cardio a day and being at 400 calories a day is not enough. I have a cup of smooth Soup and about 30 minutes latter have 3 oz of shredded chicken or tuna.< /p>

I am two weeks out (surg 8/25) and upon my one week post op my Dr. told me I was not taking in enough Protein so instead of following the diet on the paper that recommended 4oz of (tea, Protein Shake, broth, etc) each hour on the hour, that I should be sipping on my protein shake or Isopure juice all day with little sips at a time (as if you are drinking something really hot). I changed the way I was doing it and I feel more full during the day and a bit stronger since I am now getting closer to the recommended protein amount. I just started adding in Chobani yogurt (1/2 for lunch and 1/2 for dinner) and it fills me up nicely. First adjustment in another 5 weeks. Just hope the fullness continues as I graduate next week into the purree part. I just keep looking at the goal line and know that any suffering I may do will all be worth it in the end!!!

I had my band done on 8/18/10. The first 2 weeks of liquids post op, I really didn't feel hungry. I am now into soft foods (1 week) for 1 meal and 2 shakes per day, Tomorrow, I will be able to eat 2 soft meals and a shake. To answer your question, I don't get hungry but I can tell when I need to drink ( I get tired ). Stay on top of drinking the Protein Shakes with Water or tea in between. Start knitting to keep your self busy if needed. I stay far from the kitchen.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
