October 2010 Bandsters!!

Recommended Posts

Well tomorrow is my date for banding. My feet and hands are cold, I guess from anxiety! So nervous. Mostly nervous about the anesthesia and failing also afterwards.

I am on all Clear Liquids all day, bummer, but I can do it. Drank warm broth for bkfst, and drinking Crystal Light right now, even tho It's freezing weather.

I was banded yesterday. So far the recovery hasnt been bad.

At one point there was a question if I would get the surgery as my sodium level was too low. They did a stat lab test and it was up so we were ready to go. Upon waking up I hurt and had nausea but they went away quckly when I was given meds in my IV.

Mu surgery time was 11am and I was releassed at 6pm, follwoing a fluorscope to see if I had any leaks.

I havent had gas pains, other than 3 good belches. My pain is relieved with the liquid hydrocodone that I was given and I sleep alot. I am sure this is related to the pain meds but that is ok, I will cut back tomorrow. I only put 3lbs back on during surgery.

I have been able to drink just like normal, but am not yet hungry, only thirsty. I really havent done much walking, even around the house becuase I feel spacey from the pain meds.

I do feel like I have a big ball in the side of my stomach where the band it, but I would expect that. I understand day 3 is the worst, so I will see how that goes tomorrow.

My surgery date is 10/18. I only have to do a week of Slim Fast before surgery. I will go 10/8 to talk to the anthesioligist (?sp). I'm nervous, excited, unsure, etc....... My emotions vary depending on the day. I'm just ready for it to be behind me. It seems like an eternity since I started. I put everything aside for about a month. My first great grandchild was born 9/10 and I got my appointment for my surgery date. So, here I go!

A great grandchild! You are truly blessed. I agree let's get this over with. I want a more normal life back. My 2nd week of pre-op only took off one freaking pound. What's with that? 7 more sleeps for me:w00t:.

I am getting my band Oct. 12th. Started this in June. I've lost 25 pounds, and it's been hard. Today I start my liquid diet. I am excited! Good luck to all.

Wow 25 lbs without the band is amazing! I have my surgery on the 12th too but had to do 3wks pre-op. So far down 11 lbs. 7 more sleeps!!!

Hello All... I have been reading all your lovely pearls of wisdom for a few months now but hadn't written anything. I am ready to start offering some of my own soon. I am getting by band on October 18th. I am both excited and anxious. I am having my surgery in the hospital I work at. I am a nurse in the ER and feel like it is both a blessing and a curse to have the medical knowledge I have.

I started my pre-op diet officially yesterday, but have been "saying goodbye" to foods for a few months. I am down 47 pounds as of today. Good luck to all who are going to be banded and good job to those who have been. I hope to have somethings to share soon.

Nic

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
