Where is the avg port attached

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to find out where the avg port is attached.. I'm worried that mine is too High... I can feel it or at least that's what I think I feel.. But it seems that the port sits just under where my underwire is, and its really uncomofotable. Just wondering if anyone else's port seems to be that high??

I'm wondering if there is a perfect place for the port. My doc put mine about 3 inches above my belly button...well it is right in line with my countertops and when I'm at the sink (which is ALOT) the port rubs the countertop. Now I'm only about 42 days post surgery but it is ALWAYS sore!! Can't imagine how bad it would feel if I had an underwire rubbing on it all day!

Mine is high too, sort of between the boob and top of rib cage. It is very tender, although I'm only 11 days out.

I asked the doc why he chose to put it there and he gave me a very good explanation...

In the beginning he used to hide the port in a fat roll. He had problems finding it when the patients were ready for a fill. It was painful for the patient and sometimes the patient wouldn't come back for future fills because of the pain. He'd rather be able to find it easily and painlessly, than have his patients not want to come back. I totally agree. I don't see myself EVER wearing a bikini, so it's no big deal. He said if I wanted to have it moved after I get down to my goal weight, he could embed it in a muscle, but I don't know if I'd do that unless it really bothers me.

Hope that helps, good luck!

This is good to know, I've never thought to ask my surgeon where he plans to put mine. I'll be asking now! Thanks for the heads up.

Mine is a couple of inches above belly button but below left breast. I did ask the surgeon which side he planned on because I am a right side sleeper.

My port is under my belly button / slightly to the left of my belly button. I can definitely feel it and it also hits the counter tops when I am at the sink and cooking.

I don't have my Lap Band yet but my surgeon says he puts it in the belly button to hide it.

Mine is above my belly button about 2" to the right side. My countertops hit me right at my belly button, so my port is above the countertops! I have bent over reaching for something in the tailgate of my suburban and felt my port knocking against something...yuck...did not like that at all. If anyone reading has a choice...I would pick a spot that does not rub against anything on a routine basis!

Mine is on the left side halfway between my rib and belly button.

Hi:

My port is in the middle just below the rib cage - about two inches below where the ribs intersect. I love where it is because I can never feel it. Also, it's very easy for my doctor to fill.

Sue - How are you feeling? I've been thinking about you. Is your recovery finally behind you and are feeling normal again? I hope so!

Thanks for asking. I'm feeling good, with the exception of my energy level still. I'm probably 80% of normal energy level, so I'm not complaining. I got my first fill last Monday and things are going well with my band.

Hope things are well with you too.

Mine is just to the left of my belly button... maybe 1/2 an inch from it. I'm not quite sure how it ended up there because he had told me he puts them up higher when I asked pre-op. I'm guessing once he got inside my anatomy was different than expected and he had to put it there.... It feels so deep!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
