Well, if it's like the seminar my doc had, they just give some basic info about what the band does and who is a good candidate for it. No real big surprises. If you've done some research online already, you probably already know most of the things they'll tell you at the seminar.

Good luck.

Hi Jayla,

If it's anything like my doctor's seminar, it's used as a mass introduction to the concepts of WLS. The one I attended had well over 400 people attending; the large auditorium was packed. Most of the time was spent on discussing RNY and hearing former patients describe their experiences--in other words, utterly useless for me as a potential band patient.

ditto!

you probably know most of what they are gonna tell you but it seems to be a pre requisit for surgery!

Good Luck!

The seminar I attended was very small (maybe 30 people) and definitely nothing to be nervous about. It was general info on WLS, not much on Lap-Band and Q&A at the end. Upon leaving if you were interested in meeting with the surgeon, you could get paperwork to fill out and mail back in to them.

I filled out the paperwork and made copies of ALL my supporting weight loss attempts and mailed it in... then I made an appointment with my family physician and asked for a referral. Before the referral came the surgeon's office called to set up an appointment. I waited for the referral and had my appointment with the surgeon yesterday.

Now it is more testing and hopefully insurance approval! I'm hopefully on my way!!!

Good luck to you, the seminar is no big deal and like the others said... if you have been doing your research you probably know everything that will be discussed already.

Take Care,

The seminar I attended was ok. The doctor only does lapband (no RNY) so everything that was discussed pertained to the lapband. He also had the nutritionist and psychologist that he recommends there and they each spoke for a few minutes. The insurance coordinator was there to answer questions also. At the end of the session they allowed you to schedule your initial visit with the surgeon. Since I had already been researching, there wasn't really anything new said that I hadn't already read about. I guess it is just one of those hoops you have to jump through to get the surgery. They did pass out a packet of information that helped with the rest of the process though.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
