Did anyone have their omentum removed too?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I'm new to the forum, and was wondering if anyone had their omentum removed along with Lap Band? I'm looking for a surgeon who'll do it.

Bless everyone on this journey,

eddieb

Why would you want it removed it's there to serve a purpose that is if were talking about the thing that stores fat over your stomach... it's fatty but shouldn't need to be removed i'm sure a lot of people have never even heard of the word omentum.. ha ha:unsure:

Hi Zeniada

I have Insulin Resistance, and read research from Vanderbuilt University that removing the omentum (see Oprah--guest Dr. Oz) helps resolve the IR. And, some doctors are removing the omentum as part of Lap Band--I just have to find them!

Much luck and happiness

Eddieb

P.S. I read on the other forums on this website that some banders did it. So, I'll ask there

Hey eddieb! Good luck on your search. As a word of caution they THINK the omentum is part of your immune system, no one is really sure what the long term impact of removal may be.

In general, decreasing the amount of fat/weight (particularly abdominal fat) will improve insulin resistance so any significant amount of weight loss should improve your IR. I like Dr. Oz but he's not always right and sometimes jumps on the bandwagon a little early.

I'm not saying don't do it, just saying do a lot or research before.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
