That's not gross that's actually a good question! They may cath you, but you'll never know it, they usually put them in and take them out before you ever wake up.

Most of the time, because the surgery is so short, they just make you pee before hand. Catheters are used in longer, more invasive surgeries just so they can monitor Fluid intake and output.

And Aunt Flo, They're not working down there, so it shouldn't be an issue.

It was actually my TOM when I had surgery and they made me remove my tampon and put on these crazy mesh undies with a monster pad for the surgery. No problems at all, in fact, I think the surgery meds did a miracle on my cramps because I usually have them really bad for 2 or 3 days and I only had them for about 3 hrs before the surgery.

I don't think being on your TOM would be a factor in whether or not you get a catheter, because it's dealing with 2 different holes (if you know what I mean, lol). It is up to your doctor and what protocol they go by. I had a catheter in after my surgery because my doctor makes it mandatory to stay overnight at the hospital but I got it taken out that day because I was up walking around 15 minutes after being back in my room. I made sure to ask my surgeon about the catheter before hand so I wouldn't be surprised when I woke up from surgery.

I started my period a week early and was on it when I had my surgery. They just gave me mesh panties and a pad to put on and they did not have to do a catheter during surgery. Even if they did they are probably pretty used to it and its not a big deal to them.

Good question. I was on my period, the day of my surgery. I was given the granny panties and no catheter. I was told to urinate before I was taken into the operating room in order to avoid the catheter.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
