Discouraged - Don't think I was ready for the band

Recommended Posts

I am on of those who agrees with Bob...walking and swimming in my pool is my game. I like to check out what is happening in my neighborhood and then I work out in our pool. Once the work out is done then I can relax in the pool but not until I work out. My doctor also agrees..you do not need a gym membership..we live in Florida there is so much sunshine and outside areas to see! I firmly believe you do need a positive attitude and believe in yourself and see yourself succeeding. Once you picture yourself succeeding then you need to follow your dreams one day at a time achieve all those mini goals on your way! I wish you the very best!!

Congratulations on losing 16lbs, that's 16lbs that you don't have to lose! You did it!

You need to find a way to get exercise in ways that interest you, joining a gym isn't for everyone, and going out and walking in public when you feel self conscience isn't easy either. But, when you go to work or shopping, park further way from where you would normally park. I used to get excited when an open spot was near the door, now I park away from all of the other cars. You can even grab a couple of cans of vegetables and use them as weights while you are watching TV. I agree...joining a support group is very helpful, or just coming on here more often and joining the conversation will help you in your journey.

Remember to drink your fluids, it's key to flushing your system and try every day to do something that makes you a little uncomfortable because eventually, you will form a habit and that will be your new lifestyle! Good luck to you!

Congrats on your weight loss! I understand your discouragement and lack of enthusiastic exercising! But don't be so hard on yourself. Be kind to yourself. You have done something very good.

Now that you have it. . .think positive about it. I'm a big believer that our thoughts create a lot in our lives. Easier said than done, I know. Sometimes, I wonder. . WTH did I do? But. . then I figure. .well . .I got it and I'm gonna use it. You don't have to excercise every day for an hour. Start out slow and easy. There have been times, when I've made myself go for a walk and I am ornery about it and bitter :smile2: but by the time I'm done I feel so much better and it helps my depression. The trick is just doing it. Sometimes, I don't want to..then I say to myself, "DO IT ANYWAY!". Then I pout but I do it..

Hang in there. . you are doing fine. Treat yourself w/the same kindness you would your bestfriend and be patient. As others have said..you are worth it. YOU just need to know that. :)

I totally understand how you are feeling. I am 4 weeks post op and have only lost 12lbs, 10 of which were in the first week! I exercise 5-6 times a week and I really don't eat a whole meal but several times during the day I will eat small amounts of food. As the others have said you need to find some type of way to get your body moving and to sweat! I have gotten very bored of the treadmill so I am looking for some other ways to exercise. Also since you are still fairly new to the lapband I'm sure you haven't gotten to your "sweet spot" yet and once you do I hear the weight will melt off of you !! I can't wait for that time to come. Don't give up on yourself we didn't gain all this weight overnight and it isn't going to come off over night either. Be encouraged and just keep going!! Good luck!

Girl we have all been there, so dont be to hard on yourself... and CONGRATS on being HONEST WITH YOURSELF....

I use Curves, its 30 mins a day they suggest 3-4 times a week and its quick, easy, all woman, and its fun! I would suggest that you either wake up and hour earlier than you normally do, and do or on your way home from work make it your "on the way home stop"

You owe it to yourself to do this, you've already given yourself a great gift by getting banded, now get where you want to be and help the tool help you!

Best of luck and prayers.... Keep us updated!:smile2:

I notice that when I'm doing good the motivation keeps my going and kick it up. I make better choices and exercise. But if I slip, the opposite happens. I lose motivation and don't exercise as much. I've been going through this recently. I felt better when I made healthy food choices and went to the gym more consistently.

So do I want to keep in a positive or negative direction?

So I'm working on getting myself back the other way. Working out with girlfriends or making myself go to the gym after work (I work 12hours overnight) helps a lot.

Good morning all!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice and the encouraging words. This site has really been a blessing. I will go on. I am not giving up. I just have days when I feel a little more discouraged than others. My schedule is pretty full. I’m a single mom. I have a 3 year old boy who is super active. I work 2 hours away from my home. My day begins at 4 am and I’m not back home till 7 pm. That doesn’t leave me much time to do much. After reading a few of your replies yesterday I started thinking to my self and said, “I can do this and I’m going to do it” and I did.

Yesterday, I decided to go for a walk. I took my son with me. He was so encouraging. At some point, he stopped walking and began running, so I had to run after him and when I would stop, he would say, “come on mom, catch me! Run”. We walk/ran a little over a mile. We had so much fun we’re going to do it again tonight and every day Mon-Fri.

If my 3 year old can do this, I can too. I am the parent and I have to set the example. Always! I do not want my child be become obese like I have. I know I can do it. I know I’m worth it. I will accomplish this goal. Maybe later than sooner but I will.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ALL FOR BELIEVING IN ME AND SUPPORTING ME!

For those who would like to stay in touch with me, yes, lets buddy up! If you don’t receive a friend request from me, send me one.

Sincerely,

Claudia

that's great to hear! i'm kind of in a similar situation as you - i work 9-10 hour days and have an hour commute each way, so by the time i get home and deal with the kids and the house i don't feel like doing ANYTHING! just sit in front of the computer and play WoW! my only saving grace right now is that i have a co-worker who was banded about a month after me, so she and i have been motivating each other to go to the gym at lunch. hang in there, i know it seems slow now but i'll keep building and building and the more you lose, the more energy you'll have!

Great news Ms_C.. Congratulations on getting started to exercising. I was banded on June 30 and two weeks ago felt the same way as you did. Getting started is the hard part but now I started exercising I feel so much better!! Now, I got walking 3-4 days a week with my little dog. He is my motivator because he forcrs me to walk faster because it pulls the leash which makes me keep up with him. It is a hard journey but we will complete it!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
