A big setback for me

Recommended Posts

For months I have been scared of surgery because of post-op gas pain stories. I have been suffering with what I thought were gas pains for a long time now, and was afraid the surgery would make it that much worse.

Yesterday I spent most of the day in agony before driving myself to the ER. It turns out my gas pain is a huge ovarian cyst and I am supposed to make arrangements asap for surgery.

So, no lapband for me this month, but hopefully will be feeling stronger and healthier after this.

:sad:so sorry about your pain but glad you know what the problem is.....good luck in the future. I am banded this month on the 26th and have been anxious about the surgery and post op pain. my father had gallbladder surgery and had no gas pain. some do though. my RN said DO NOT eat anything but clear fluids the day before ( i may do two days) and that will help.

Holy moly! You poor thing.

I can guarantee that the postop gas pains are nothing like the pain you've already experienced. You'll have pain relieving medication if you need it, and it really does resolve quickly.

If you can handle what you've already handled, I think that banding will seem pleasantly simple.

Sorry Sooz. Glad they found out what was causing all that pain. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you everyone, for the well wishes. I'm a bit freaked out by the cyst diagnosis, but have a gyn appt Thursday and will know more. Just like approvals and surgery dates, etc, the waiting is the hardest part!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
