Hi. I'm new here, banded two days ago

and Tuesday was the first day of the rest of my life. I'm 50 years old, female. Any other "oldsters" out there? My starting weight was 314, was 289 on surgery day. Everything seems just fine so far.

Congratulations and welcome. The forums are great for support and information. I'm a 48 year old female and was banded May 5th. It's been a pretty interesting process, ups and downs, but overall very effective. Good luck to you. Keep in touch.

:thumbup:Hi Thanks for responding and for your good wishes, everyone.

So, your surgery is on Tuesday. That's so exciting. I had to wait from May to August so I was SO ready. How am I doing? This week I was off work, but I'm going back tomorrow and feel more that ready for it. Healing is going well, no pain, only a little tugging on the stitches getting in and out of bed. So far, so good - I'm still 100% pumped about the whole process. I'm having no problem cooking for my family while on this liquid diet, for which I'm thankful.

All the very best to you on Tuesday. Let us know how it goes.

Later today I go to the motel near the airport to park and fly out in early AM, then in 3 hrs we arrive and the surgery day is here!! I am nervous about post op pain and vomiting. I have read some good stories and some scary stories. I wonder what my story will be. :cursing:

Stay positive. Make sure they give you something for the nausea & liquid meds for the pain. The gas pains can be releived with some gas-x and by walking. Will be praying you have a smooth trip & recovery. Keep us posted.

Relax, and stay positive. The post-op pain for me more than bearable and vomiting non-existent. I tried not to get pre-occupied with it mentally. Good Luck!!

Ah if you are old, then so am I and I am not ready to be! I was banded a little over a year ago, but did not really get started until last November, (I had a faulty port and had to have it replaced), so no you are not alone. Even though some days are hard, I would do it again in a minute. I feel it is a life saving thing for me, I was over 60lbs heavier and have gone from a size 24/26 to an 18. I am by no means done but I am very pleased with my slow steady progress. Best of luck.

Hello All, i am home and was banded on aug 17th, everything went well and I also had a hernia repair. I am sore but no nausea or vomiting and the pain med is toradol i think and it has worked pretty darn well. I have put on 4 lbs though I guess it is swelling maybe or my bodies defenses to hold on for a bumpy rise maybe. I have faith it will start going the other direction though. thank you all for the support your all so lovely.

Welcome Sagreenia & congrats on beginning your journey. Remember to drink all your liquids for the day & get all your Protein in also. As you read these threads you will see everyones Dr has a different post-op diet so if you have any ?'s or begin to get hungry call your Dr or nutritionist they will be able to advise you. Walk often as it will really help your recovery & gas pains if you have some. Gas-x helps with the gas pains also. The first couple of weeks is all about healing. At first you will not feel hungry but in several days you will. Remember you have no restriction yet and you will be able to eat pretty much as you did b4 surgery. This time is for you to learn & incorporate new eating habits & make healthier food choices. I really suggest you measure yourself bcuz you might not lose much or any prior to your 1st fill but you will lose alot of inches. Dont keep weighing yourself cuz you might get dissapointed. Remember that this is a journey & it is a slow process at 1st but once you start getting the fills and reach your "sweet spot" the lbs will start to melt off. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Hi, i am 58 yrs old. I got banded Aug 12 and just started eating mushy foods yesterday. I got to say I feel great. I am walking more and more each day. Other than that first night home where i had a hard time sleeping it gets better each day. I am dowm almost 20 lbs since surgery. So far the hardest thing was the pre-op diet with the Clear Liquids. This last week after banding i was on clear liquids but not the hunger pains i had on the pre-op diet. I love being full after so little to eat. I have to get used to eating slower and chewing more but i have not been nauseated at all. I go for my first adjustment Sep 29.

You are 5 days earlier than I am octroy. I am doing pretty well and my pain level is now pretty well controlled by tylenol now. I was wondering if you got your here in this country or mexico, I went to mexico. they sent me home with this creme called recoveron-nc I do not really know what it is for and am waiting for a call back about that, the nurses told me soap and Water only and dressing changes. I am not hungry either! and am on clear liquids til 24th, that will be one week. of course no wt loss yet but I am hopeful this will work for me. I need to lose 76lb to make my first goal. then i will make another.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
