unreal...went for my post-op appt today I'm 4 weeks out tomorrow and starving. Begged the NP for a fill so I would not have to take more time out from work in 2 more weeks...she said YES!

So I get on the table she washes the belly with betadine puts the drapes on starts feeling for the port and says ok you will feel a pinch...NOTHING...not a bleesed thing!! All I felt was pressure from her putting in the 3 cc's of saline and takeing it out and putting it back in.

Took some sips of Water everything went down fine and that was it...so uneventful!

TOOOOOOO easy!!

I ALSO WENT FOR MY FIRST FILL TODAY. LIKE YOU NO DRAMA. DOING MY X-RAY, DR. LIN SHOWED ME EVERYTHING HE WAS DOING ON THE MONITOR. HE NUMB ME FIRST ME WHERE THE PORT WAS LOCATED AND THEN HAD ME TO SIP THIS WHITE liquid. WHEN I SAW THE LIQUID GO DOWN AND STOP HE EXPLAIN TO ME THAT IT WAS TO MUCH SO HE DECREASE IT TWICE UNTIL I WAS COMFORTABLE WITH SWALLOWING. I END UP GETTING 2.2CC. THANKS TO DR.LIN OF EMORY HOSPITAL IN ATLANTA, GA. FOR A SUCCESSFUL AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE. :)

Woo hoo. Everyone says fills are painless. Glad it went well. I haven't gotten to experience one. (not sure if that's good or not lol!)

Hi Rev - just curious as to why you have not had a fill...obviously you are doing great, but my question is are you one of the lucky ones who feels restriction without a fill? I'm going Monday for the 1st one and I can't wait. I've been doing well, but all of the sudden the last 3-4 days have been soooo hard. I feel like I could eat anything (and can) and feel some old habits creeping in (overate some rice cakes last night - better than potato chips, but not a good habit regardless!). My weight loss has stopped, but I have not gained. I think I need to eat about 1000 cals or less to lose and I'm at about 1100-1200 and maintaining. Very frustrating as I have been able to lose weight before on 1200-1400 calories:cursing: (pre-band, and I was also a little bit younger, too). Maybe still some swelling - I can see my port area bulging more than the rest of my stomach, still. I think we are all like kids at Christmas and want this weight off RIGHT NOW  Great job on the weightloss!

Yep! Since surgery I've had great restriction and I love it. A cup of food, if not less, fills me completely for hours. Sometimes in the morning (when I first wake up) my stomach will growl, so I've started to eat a Protein bar in the morning since I'm up so early, but other then that, I'm doing well and never really feeling hungry.

I had an issue with the weightloss stopping too. Gotta love plateaus. I was eating around 500-700 calories a day and losing really well, but I added in exercise and stayed at the same calorie level. I actually gained a few pounds. So now I'm eating 850-950 calories a day, depending on my exercise (switches from cardio to sculpting/weights), and I hope to eventually bump it up to 1000 calories + especially if the weightloss stops.

Good luck with your fill! Try mixing up your calories/exercise and see if it jump starts the scale. Congrats on your weightloss as well!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
