Reflux and Lapband.

Recommended Posts

Hiya, just wondering if anyone else has experienced or have been experiencing reflux since being banded. I've only recently started having it during the night (usually first thing in the morning - it's what wakes me up!) but once I'm up, I'm fine again.

I don't think my band is too tight, I haven't had a fill in about 2 months. I have been trying to think of what may be causing it and am thinking that it could perhaps be because I haven't been drinking enough Water? ? Has anyone else had any problems with this and how do you stop it?

I was having it during the night, and I was too tight. Not just fills make you tight. Stress can do it too. Even though it's been a while since your last fill, you may want to go in and talk with your Dr. With stress, your body can swell inside and cause you to be more tight. That is what happened with me. Don't put off going though. I did and it gave me problems for over 6 months. Good luck!!

Reflux is a big sign of the band being too tight. Try not drinking anything 1 hour before bedtime and not eating anything at least 2-3 hours before bedtime.

If you are still getting the reflux, then a small unfill may be in order.

I normally don't get it unless I eat close to bedtime and then I'll wake up 4-5 hours later coughing...and my band is on the loose side.

Try and see if this helps, otherwise don't be afraid to get a small unfill...being too tight isn't good!

Thanks guys, I made sure I didn't eat anything too close to bedtime last night and tried drinking more Water during the day..and I had no problems. It isn't a regular occurrence so I'm thinking that may be the problem. Will definitely be keeping an eye on the times/nights/days etc that it happens and if I get too concerned, I will be making an appointment to be checked out. Thanks again!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
