Question About Pouch Stretching

Recommended Posts

May sound a little weird but has anyone else been worried about it?? When we eat things that go down "hard" does that affect the size of your pouch? I have been wondering about this. Anyone Else? Thank you all.

I don't think the pouch stretches that easily. The stomach has a lot of give to it. However, I'm going to talk to the doc. about it when I see him in a week. I haven't had restriction in about 2 weeks so I am a little concerned about stretching.

I know my pouch has stretched a little, but I'm sure it wasn't caused by a few "hard" meals. My dr said it looks normal so I'm not worried. I do try to do the 5 day pouch test diet every now and then to help keep it that way!:blushing:

I think stretching is mostly caused by continuously overeating. At least that's the way it was described to me. If you don't stop eating when you're full, and keep trying to get in that last bite, you're putting yourself beyond what your pouch can handle.

I thought I read somewhere that if you take frequent laxatives it can stretch as well? Like ex-lax, not something more organic?

I will try to find that this afternoon. Has anyone heard of that?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
