Thought I was gonna die!!!! but I didn't.

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am new here and I just want to say...

I was banded on July 19th 2010 and days after my procedure I was in so much pain I thought death would be better than this! I had an adverse reaction to the anesthesia and pain meds. The pain meds made me sick to my stomach which caused dry heaves which caused soreness. I swore I could feel my intestines move! I could not take any pain meds so I was suffering with the bloating and the movements and the tenderness.

Each day got better... and better...

I didn't feel hungry and was afraid of hurting if I ate anything in the wrong manner. I stuck to broth and thin protien shakes.

I was at work 5 days later but had to go home due to discomfort. (scheduled for 12 hr shift)

I returned to work on the 6th day for a 1/2 day and felt better. I worked 7 more days straight after that!

I can eat more than I should (still small quantities). I can eat things I shouldn't. (meatballs and nuggets) All within these two weeks. I was thinking... WHAT A WASTE of PAIN! But now after reading all these blogs, I see that sometimes all of that is normal and once I receive my first fill I should be back on track.

I have lost 10 pounds in 13 days. I will chaulk it up to Water weight since I havent poo'd in two weeks. (Sorry for that but com'on we all are sharing our most personal lapband experiences to help others right?)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
