Recommended Posts

What did you have as your first real meal post op?....I'm a few weeks away but I'm planning. Can't make up my mind chicken with Papaya BBQ Sauce and Coconut rice or Nori crusted salmon

You brought back memories with this post. I remember starving on the pre and post op diets and I wanted something full of chloresterol (hope I spelled it correctly) and calories. I went to Red Lobster. I ordered salad with the crab/crawfish stuffed Flounder w/ mashed potatoes and broccoli. I passed on a beverage and the biscuits. I thought I would have dessert too but I was unable to finish my meal. Happy planning!

You will find when get the ok to eat that there will be some things you could eat in the past that you just cant tolerate now. So take it slow and I would suggest trying new foods at home before you try them in a resteraunt. Nothing like heaving up this foamy nasty stuff in the middle of a room full of people who are trying to enjoy their meal. So far I have found that I can not tolerate chicken, peaches, lemons or anything breaded and fried. I have also found that I can tolerate all baked or broiled seafood and tossed salad... go figure. This is definitely a journey but with great rewards in the end so have fun...

Honestly, this was so anticlimatic for me that I don't even remember! I do remember being excited about cottage cheese because I've loved it my whole life. food just isn't that great anymore..it's such hard work LOL chew chew chew.

I have no idea! I don't remember. It was protein---I can tell you that. But that's because Protein was the basis for my postop diet.

No idea what it was. I did spend lots of time thinking about it beforehand, but ...well, clearly, food begins to take a different significance farther down the road!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
