Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to give a little update. Well to day is day 3 of my pre-op diet and i must say it sha not been as bad as the thought it was gonna be. Other then the crabbiness when i get home from work, it have been pretty good! and i have lost 4lbs Yay!!!!!!!!:huh2:

Now my problem is the weekend, i have been doing well so far because i am at work all day and then when i go home in the evening i make a shake, watch the Simpsons and Family Guy and then go to bed. (a very structured day) welllllll now comes the weekend and i am worried. I guess i could drive the whole huse crazy and clean all weekend in order to keep myself busy!

Can i get some advice from my fellow Bandsters!!!

Have a great weekend everyon:biggrin:

Hello - Congrats and continue with doing well on the pre-op....this is a preface to the will power you will need to continue with after the surgery. Some suggestions to keep on the pre-op when you are NOT at work....

what worked for me was to GET AWAY from the house. So if it is nice out - get out to the beach, a park, etc. Someplace that does NOT have easy access to food - so the mall and movies were NO GO for me.

Good Luck!

Hey August 11th Buddy! I'm also on day 3, down 6lbs (I'm thinking it's Water cuz I'm peeing all the time!) I'm home during the day, so I have to find other things to do. I use a food journal, it's really easy to make one on your computer or just grab a piece of paper. Write down when you are going to have your shakes and your meals. Then write down when to take your water or fluids. If you decide to go out, pack up what you need in a small cooler or if you are home, find something to do and keep to your schedule. It's two days...you can do it!!

I had to spend a week in Las Vegas at a Conference the week before my surgery. I managed. I did what I needed to do and that often meant going to my room with a bottle of Water and a REALLY good book.

What kept me on track was knowing that when my surgeon opened me up, he would be able to see if I was really serious about my commitment.

Believe me, the first words out of my mouth post-op were, "how did my liver look?" I wanted to know the sacrifice paid off...and it did.

You can do this! If you were not a super strong gal you would not have made it this far!

Well I'm on day 4 and I've been chewing gum and staying busy. I've done lots of housework and spent lots of time on the treadmill. When I really feel the urge to eat I pop a piece of sugar free gum.

I got banded on Monday, and of course for the first time this summer my sister and her family invited my family, including my mom and sister and nieces and nephews boating and swimming the sunday before. Since I have only told my SO about the surgery, I had to tell them I had some blood work on Monday so I wasn't supposed to eat or drink anything that day. Of course that is very odd, so they all had questions. It was certainly hard watching everyone eat and drink all day. Now this weekend, first week after surgery, some friends asked if I wanted to go down to their lake house for the weekend. Not only can I not eat or drink, but now I can't even get into the Water. So I shipped my SO off without me, hoping for a peaceful (and hungry) weekend for me and hopefully giving her some much needed down time after putting up with me and our life changes for the past couple of weeks. The timing is bad, but I just have to keep focusing on the positive, like how much more I will enjoy those activites next year, hopefully down quite a few sizes!! Just keep looking at the big picture....and the little little girl/guy in it!! :(

I have a few questions for you guys: Are you on a 2 week liquid diet or are you able to eat food also? And if you are on liquid only what are you guys having? I start my 2 week diet tomorrow but allowed to have Jello, yogurt, sugar free juices, and shakes. So any suggestions on the shakes? Also CONGRATS!!! I am super excited for you guys and I will pray that all of your hunger pains will be worth it. Good luck!!!

For yogurt I buy Chobani Greek Style it has twice the Protein of other regular yogurts. Since i buy the Fat Free with fruit it's a little tart. I add in some splendra and approx. 2 tablespoons of vanilla whey Protein Powder. Mix together for a really thick high protein snack.< /p>

My doctor requires 1 week pre op and one week post op of "clear liquids." That means sugar free Jello, popsicles, broth. But that is about it. No Protein supplements or anything else. Who knew I would cut my right arm off for one bite of cottage cheese!! Tonight is a bad one for me...the only bad one so far. I should just go to bed, I am sure tomorrow will be better.

Hey Shadena,

Spend the weekend reading the lap band forums , checking out the very encouraging YouTube vids of the successful lap banders and window shopping the internet of all the clothes you want to wear when you reach your goal .

I've been on the net 24/7 since my date is coming up in August finally and the time flies. I have gotten so many good tips and encouragement from YT.

I just can't wait to put it all into action.

Join us in the August rush 2010 thread so that we all can keep up with each other through this journey.

PM me if you'd like, girl I'm gonna be home most of the weekend let's talk or I should say type!!

Dee

I am allowed to add fruit both fresh and frozen to my shakes and skim milk instead of Water. Those two things have saved me for sure. My favorite is pineapple and banana shakes w/ my vanilla Protein powder w/ milk & ice. Also, I started a peaches and strawberry shake which is pretty delicious as well :( Good luck, take it one day at a time. I am 4 days away from surgery and have stuck with the pre-op 100% and I feel good about going into my surgery.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
