Hi Everyone,

I was banded in 11/08. I had lost 70lbs, but over the past few months been starting to have major acid reflux problems. My surgeon over the course of a month or so has removed Fluid and last week removed all of the fluid. Problem is the acid reflux is not better and in many ways it is worse. I live on two 24-hour Prevacid daily in addition to Reglan (10mg 4x daily) just added by surgeon yesterday.

My weight loss has stopped, and I am gaining weight. My throat is sore all the time, I think from the acid. I have also developed a mucous cough 24/7, and frankly feel like crap most of the time. I also need to sleep sitting up.

Surgeon did an upper GI and saw that stuff was flowing through the band. Yet I feel horrible.

I have another issue now and that is I have a torn rotator cuff and am scheduled for surgery on 10/5. I am scared to death b/c I do not think I can lay on a surgery table and be put under the way I am now.

My first question is to those who have gone through this, how long did you wait or have to wait b/f the band was remmoved, which is what I think needs to be done.

My second questions is to those who had their band removed, how long before you could go back to work? (I am a legal assistant), and also how long was your hospital stay?

This is affecting all aspects of my life. I do not sleep, I have stopped exercise b/c I feel like junk.....

Any responses would be greatly appreciated. I have a call into my surgeon's ofc and plan to tell them I want the band removed.

Thanks very much,

Karen

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
