how long after surgery can you have an alcoholic beverage?

Recommended Posts

I am curious to know whats the time frame after surgery that I can have a glass or 4 of wine. My surgery is wednesday and as it is giving up diet coke has been a dificult task, I suffer from headaches daily.

My doc recommend waiting at least 6 weeks. Though that was a blanket recommendation and I don't drink.

Also, consider that wine is empty calories and that you'll be a light weight post-op. Four glasses of wine may have you more drunk than you'd like to be.

4 glasses of wine would really impede your weightloss. Not only the calories but it will reduce your inhibitions and you may eat something you shouldn't. If you factor in the calories, 1-2 glasses probably won't hurt.

Congrats on your surgery!! I got banded on July 17. I am 10 days out.. I've been feeling great and not really in pain anymore. Last Friday my family went to a mexican restaurant.. omg so hard not to eat enchiladas. So I choose to just have a margarita instead. lol. I definitly got alot more tipsy than normal. But I think I was fine.. I mean it was a liquid and im nto really trying to worry about empty calories until I get filled. :) Good Luck to you! I think its your choice and you should listen to your doctor but like I said I don't think alcohol messes anything up. But DO NOT OVER DRINK and end up throwing up.. you could majorly mess up your band then. I think you should just have one or two glasses lol not four. But its your choice your body..

GOOD LUCK!! Hope I helped.

Hi, I had my first post op drink last Friday (vodka mixed with pink lemonade crystal light!), I was 24 days post-op, it went down fine and I have had a frozen margarita since then. I think it just depends on how well you handle your alcohol and also yes it is empty calories so you have to be extra careful if you want to continue living healthy with a successful weight loss!

Dr. gave no firm recommendations on when I could start driiking but have steered clear just because I know they are empty calories and I don't want to screw up. Also, some drinks have A LOT of calories. Guess when I do drink I will have something like vodka and cranberry juice.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
