Nervous and hopeful

Recommended Posts

I have my EDG (I think, the scope thing) going on Tuesday. This is the last step, maybe, before getting a date. I know it sucks that I let myself get this bad, and surgery is drastic, but maybe drastic is what I need to get my head wrapped around the fact that my life is out of control.

I have been doing OA online meetings, but they bug me. I have been told that is because I am not ready, and that I need to hit bottom first. Why? Can't I get support without having the "hello, I'm so and so, and I am a compulsive overeater." And then 50 different people saying "hi so and so" The one person at a time annoys me. I want a give and take conversation. Or am I really not ready? I think I am, and I want to be. Is there something else, other than this forum, that can help me?

I am rambling, but that is what I do lately.

If you already have your surgeon picked out, maybe try to speak to him/her. Or definitely work with a counselor if possible. The only one who can be sure you are ready for surgery is yourself. If you're ready and willing to make the changes and follow the rules of the band, then you should keep that in mind.

I had a lot of doubt before I got my band as well. I'd been overweight for years, probably since the end of elementary school, and I always thought maybe I'm not ready, maybe I can do it on my own, and being only 19, it was a pretty big decision to make. But it all came down to the fact that I knew I needed this, and no one was going to sway my decision.

Maybe take some time, look at what you've done to lose weight in the past, and look at what the band can possibly help you do. If you believe you're ready for it, then go for it. Lots of people here will definitely be behind your decision either way.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
