Lots of pre op diet questions....

Recommended Posts

First off I was told I could have 3 shakes per day made with Water not milk, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, fat free broth and skim milk, cottage cheese, or yogurt with no fruit-3 servings or less a day.

I'm assuming that means Fat Free Cottage Cheese??

I was given samples of powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein to try and they also said I could have water, Crystal Light, coffee, Tea and 1 cup of clear juice per day.

I was also told to start a chewable Multivitamin today. Well the only ones I could find were Centrum and they are NASTY. Do they make a good Gummy chewable Vitamin for us?

Also is Un Jury good?

This is going to suck but I have 3 kids that keep me super busy so I rarely have time to eat anyway, hopefully that will help.

Spoiltmom,

Yes, I think it means fat free cottage cheese. It's the same diet I am on, but thankfully he is letting me make my shakes with skim milk (makes em better).

I tried the unjury, but ended up going with Body Fortress whey Protein (Choc.) at Walmart. It's cheaper and not terrible. They ok'd it for me  Good luck and it's tough going!

So did you not like the taste of the Un Jury or what?

Thanks!

I started my pre-op diet last Thursday for surgery on 7/29/10. For week 1, I am having 1 Protein shake for Breakfast (from a list of approved shakes), and 3-4 oz. chicken, fish, or turkey and 1 serving of vegetables for lunch and dinner. Of course...lots of Water and I can have sugar free popsicles and Jello.

On Thursday, I move to 4 Protein shakes a day for 5 days and then Clear liquids for 2 days before surgery. I am drinking Slim-Fast Low Carb, which was on the list. It has 20 grams of Protein, and about 190 calories; not too bad.

Surprisingly....I have not cheated once! I guess it is because I know what the outcome will be this time. I am excited!

Good luck with everything!

You are fortunate that you got scheduled relatively quickly after your determination letter. I know my surgeon received my letter early last week, and I've yet to hear from them for a schedule.

Well the coordinator told me that August 6th was pushing it but there was an opening on the surgery schedule and it just so happens that my dh is already off that day so I jumped on it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
