Where do you live?? I was at Duffy's a week post op, for a party, I explained to the waiter that I was not ordering anything because I just had surgery (didnt even mention it was bariatric) I mentioned to him that I brought some broth, Jello, and ice tea. They had absoloutely no problem with that. I have not tried my card yet, but most places where I live, Southeast Florida, you can order of the childrens menu and substitute sides for more healthier ones. Sorry you have had trouble, I would have asked for the manager in that situation, and possibly called the corporate office to explain the situation. Maybe you just had an insensitive waiter.

All restaurants are lapband friendly. Just order off of the kids menu.

If you want to get picky, you can drive down to Dallas and check out this place: http://www.eattheworld.com/. The owner has had lapband surgery. I haven't tried it yet. I am considering setting up some kind of get together there.

Can you explain what is the lapband card?

To be honest - I just order off the menu and plan on taking home the leftovers - OR order an appetizer for dinner. I found that the Cheesecake Factory & Olive Garden have these really small appetizer pizzas - It's very rare that I can eat the entire one. But mostly I'll order something that I can eat the next day. I'll have that at Olive Garden with their salad. (I don't touch the breadsticks)

Outback Steakhouse will let you order off the kids menu, but there is a $2.00 upcharge, which makes it about as expensive as the adults' menu.

I have not found a restaurant yet where there wasn't something on the menu that I could eat.

I never got the card, which explains that you had bariatric/gastric surgery, and requests that you be allowed to order off the childs menu at the childs price.

I generally order off the appetizer menu. Or I bring home doggie bags and have my lunch for the next day. I have been known to put an insulated bag and blue ice in my car if I knew I'd be getting a doggie bag and we weren't going straight home.

When I am going out with a group, and am concerned that I will not be paying attention to what I am doing...thus might get stuck, I will order Soups and more slider-ish foods. My doctor wants me to refrain from liquids with calories and Soups, but experience has taught me that this is better than getting stuck in front of people.

If I am going out with one or two people for a quiet meal, then I will order a regular meal. My hubby and I will often share or split meals. If somewhere charges to split, then I order a very small appetizer and ask for it to be delivered with his food. Then we share the appetizer and the meal.

My daughter is a server at a very busy Las Vegas restaurant, and says most servers hate it when people bring out the cards. She tells me people come in with an attitude like "my doctor says you have to let me order off the childs menu", and of course our doctors don't dictate what rules restaurants have to follow! I just order whatever I want and eat my small portion and take the rest home. If I can't bag it, I'll order something small or maybe just a side and have bits of my husbands or friends entree.

It is a card you get from your physician that you can show to the waiter that explains that you have had bariatric surgery and allow you to order off the kids menu, or order smaller portions of food. The restaurant does not need to comply, but it always helps.

guitrman:

It a card that is given by the LapBand Makers. it reads: This cardholder has an adjustable gastric band implanted around the stomach to restrict food intake. This device is MRI compatible. Caution should be taken when prescribing potentially ulcerogenic medications or performing any gastric or abdominal procedure. Additional emergency information for healthcare providers can be found online at lapbandcentral.com/er.

Note to restaurants: Please allow this person to order smaller portions, as the amount of food this person can eat has been greatly reduced.

you can order one on www.lapband.com

You will need to know your surgery date, surgeon, surgeon #, Band Size, and Max fill volume,,,,

I will post a picture......soon

Okay I got a temporary card that I was given at my pre op appt on Tuesday. So does Lap Band automatically send you a permanent one or do I have to order it?

I've never used the card. I order appetizers, share, or take home leftovers. Lots of places offer small plates now--I really like that. And I've never been in a restaurant situation when the server/kitchen would not or could not accommodate me, usually from the regular menu (sometimes with minor substitution).

That said, Bidi's Mongolian Grill will let adults serve themselves smaller portions and charge the child's price---for anyone who asks. (My daughter does this when she's not very hungry, and she's not banded.)

I guess I'm lucky my sister is a very light eater and we usually wind up getting the same thing. I request an extra plate and we split the food. If we have something left over my brother-in-law will eat it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
