how much is too much???

Recommended Posts

I think I ate too much. I'm a new band patient, less than 1.5 months, and I had my first fill less a little over two weeks ago. I find that, depending on what I eat, I can eat what I think is quite a bit. For the day, I'm at about 650 calories, but I was able to eat a whoel tuna fish sandwich. I don't think I should be able to eat that much considering when I eat chicken or pork, I'm good with 2 oz and about 1/4 cup of veggies. Is this normal?

The sandwich sounds pretty normal to me.

I hope you used fat free mayo in the tuna and it was on whole grain bread.

The fact that 2 oz of meat satisfies you after only 1 fill is great!!!

That is fantastic that you can be satisfied on so little after just one fill!

I just had my third fill yesterday and I can already tell that I am FINALLY getting some sort of restriction. After my second fill I was still able to eat as much as I wanted if I chewed really well. I had never felt that 'full' feeling that everyone has spoken of. I had to rely on sheer willpower not to eat the volumes of food that I was eating prior to surgery.

I think that you are doing really great. If you are satisfied after only eating one sandwich you are doing fantastic for just one fill. As you get more fills you will find that you will be eating less and less.....but maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that feels that one fill was enough!

You are doing great!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
