Hey to everyone! I just started my 2-week pre-op diet on 7/15 and so far not so bad. However, I went to the dentist on Thursday and she extracted 2 teeth so that helps with not being hungry! I certainly didn't expect to have teeth taken out and have stitches in my mouth, but I have decided it is time for me to be healthy all the way around!

My surgery is scheduled for 7/29 and I am excited and nervous at the same time. I am so ready to do this and can't wait to have a new me in the coming months and years! Hopefully, I will be able to decrease my diabetic meds and my high blood pressure meds; that would be AWESOME!

I am so glad I found this site; everyone is wonderful and I will continue to post progress as it comes. Good luck to everyone who has made this life-changing decision!

I wish you much success! Keep up the positive attitude - that will carry you far. I had Diabetes II. I had surgery 6/24 and it is in remission now. I wasn't checking my blood sugars during the pre-op diet, and they checked it during the surgery prep and it was 76 fasting. I've been checking since surgery and am running 74-76 fasting each morning. I wish you the same good health!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
