Oi vey. So after months of jumping (or rather, waddling) through hoops of one kind or another I *finally* have a surgery date of 8/12/10. Woot!

However the doctor asked for one last round of bloodwork just to check that my anemia was controlled enough that he felt like he could proceed with the surgery. Lo and behold - Iron levels are good but my stupid thyroid which had an overall TSH of 1.7 in June is now 11.2!!!

They switched me to name brand Synthroid and told me to start taking it in the morning rather than at night. My next bloodwork is 8/9/10. THREE days before my surgery is scheduled. And if my TSH is not below 7 they won't proceed with the surgery.

Noooo pressure.

I am thisclose to freaking out, man!

Oh noooo! I'm so sorry, that's so crappy.

Best wishes and I hope that it all works out. Is there anything you can do?

Im so sorry to hear that, but i know excactly what ur going through. i have had thyroid issues for about 9 years if u take it in the morning everyday and dont miss a dose u should be fine. it also depends on what dosage he gave u. The highest my levels ever got was 224, the doctors wondered how in the world i was even moving. i told them i was but in slow motion. Good luck to ya!

You'll get there, just be really disciplined about taking your thyroid meds first thing in the morning before you start your day. Think of it as you "weight loss pill", take care.

Wow! Have you always been on meds?

I agree take your meds first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and DON"T take any Vitamins with them or they won't work. You should space Vitamins 3-4 hours apart from Synthroid.

Good Luck!

I've been on meds for about 3 years and they have always have a hard time controlling it. I am just amazed that it jumped that much in only a month.

It's frustrating, and I reallllly hope it doesn't delay things. I've come this far and would be so incredibly disappointed if this tiny issue delayed things any further, kwim?

Well I did feel crappy but honestly I have sleep apnea and am morbidly obese and generally feel like crap all the time anyways so it wasn't that noticeable - lol!

I just wonder what the heck threw it so far out of whack in such a short time...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
