As a wise man once said...MMMMM, BEER!!!

Recommended Posts

So I know that most docs do not recommend drinking beer because of the carbon in the drink. I am curious if beer like Guinness, Bass etc... beers that have little or no carbornation are okay?

I asked my doctor the day after surgery about "never having a beer again" and he said that is not the case, just in limited moderation. I am a bit confused by it all.

I can drink any kind of beer I like (I like a lot of them) and have no problems at all. This is one of those everyone is different types of things. My suggestion is if it's ok with your surgeon then just give it a shot and see if you can drink it without any discomfort. Just dont be suprised if you are feeling a little tipsy after just a couple.

I drink Guinness but got the ok from my PA/nutritionist first.

It doesn't give me gas but I am drinking a lot slower than I used to.

Not that I want a lot...but a cold Guinness on the patio with my buddies would be nice. I know mixed drinks just do not do it for me and usually have more calories than most beer from the sugar content. I will try sipping a beer and see what happens I guess. With no fill or restirction yet, probably not a hell of a lot will happen to me right now!!

Yeah I drink beer also BUT beeeeee careful about how fast and how much you drink it. Usually if you let in sit for a little while it becomes a little flatter and easier to get down. However, if you get the drunk munchies it can turn brutal on you reallllllly quick. Remember that beer is carbonated and if you eat something high in carbs i.e. crackers, chips, bread...that crap will expand!! That can hurt. Something I have learned over the last 2 yrs banded is....go slow and listen intently to your body. It will let you know how far you can go but its a vvveeeerrrryy quiet warning. So enjoy your beer!!! I like mine with lime, the citrus cuts the carbonation a bit and when the beer gets flatter the lime makes it more appealing.

When I drink beer at home I just do a "bad pour" from the bottle to a glass to get some of the carbonation out and I'm usually fine. At a restaurant I order a beer and an empty glass so I can do the same thing. Sometimes I get a little pain in my chest when I drink it too fast, but then I burp and I'm fine.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
