Post Port Revision Progress

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I had been at goal for quite some time, and went in last week for a port revision. I didn't have any big port-related problems, but had lost enough weight that the port was protruding from my stomach... It was just not nice looking. Anyway, the surgery went super well. I was up and dressed in a matter of hours, and on a plane home that same evening. I've had some discomfort and bruising, but have gone back to my normal life with relative ease.

I'm posting because my swelling is INSANE. Surgery was 10 days ago, and with my overall swift recovery, I'm shocked that I am so swollen... Assuming its swelling.. None of my clothes fit (living in workout pants), and today I weighed in 25lbs heavier than on my port surgery date!!! DH just about took my head off for weighing myself while recovering, but that's a different story....

Anyone know if this is normal? How long until my body goes back to its presurg proportions? I appear to be swollen everywhere; chubby legs, rings don't fit, rounder face, etc. It's very frustrating after all that work!!!

I also had a complete unfill, and have been unable to work out, but I logically know there's no way I could gain 25lbs in 10 days. I just feel out of control of my body and it's a very hard feeling for me... Input is greatly appreciated :)

That's a LOT of Fluid retention, especially 10 days out.

I'd give a call to your Dr. and just touch base to make sure that there's nothing to be concerned about and to ask if he has any suggestions for reducing it.

And congratulations on your fantastic success!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
