How easy is it to stretch your stomach??

Recommended Posts

I am on Week 2 of my post-op full liquid diet and have been doing pretty well sticking to it. However, last night I ordered broccoli cheddar Soup at Panera, and it was the most I had eaten since surgery - not to mention it had little bits of broccoli in it. I tried to avoid them, but I'm sure some went down. I felt so guilty! But, mostly I felt worried that I had eaten too much. How easy is it to actually stretch your stomach? I really don't have much restriction, as far as I can tell...especially this week after the swelling has gone down after surgery.

Let me start by saying..totally my opinion. That being said, if you are eating, and chew chew chewing your food as you are supposed to (soup with bits in it-I know..hard to CHEW Soup, right?) and you are full, with no pain afterwards (pain being that overlyfull feeling some may experience with overeating at a...say...all you can eat buffet, you should have nothing to worry about. I have heard this and that regarding streching your pouch, some saying it is a myth, some saying it is not. Not sure what to think on that one. If you are satiated and not overly full, don't fret- (I say). Just watch the fat and calories in that soup..might be a little high? I do not know..as I have never been to a panera. GOOD LUCK!

I believe it is pretty difficult to stretch your pouch, the stomach has a lot of give to it. I am pretty sure the Soup didn't do it. Good luck on your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
