Reflux/Heartburn question...

Recommended Posts

I have had heartburn and since October have been on Omeprazole. It worked immediately. I take it daily. The other day my prescription ran out so i thought I would give it a couple of days and see if I get it back.

Boy oh Boy did I ever. The next morning when I woke up I couldnt get to the chemist fast enough. I will ask my Dr at my next app next year, he is off till end of January....but do you think that means these tablets will have to be taken for life or should I be on another tablet or what?? I know I read a few ppl had heartburn etc and after going on a tablet for a bit it went away...should I expect mine will go or only by taking a tablet daily?

Thanks for advice in advance.

I've wondered the same thing. After the last few fills, I've started taking a reflux medication too. While I don't feel overfilled at the moment, I get reflux horribly if I don't take it. I was thinking that perhaps though, after I reach goal and have a bit of fill removed to maintain rather than lose, that might help?

I started to have reflux especially in the late night and early morning, soon after I had a my last fill. I held out for two months before I went back and had some removed. After I had the fill removed, I have been fine since.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
