Is It Too Soon For A Fill???

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Nov. 7th and am scheduled for my first fill this Friday (Dec.2). It has not even been a month yet, and it will only have been 26 days since my surgery. A couple of days ago I felt that this was too soon, until I ate a bit too much today. I was hardly able to eat anything yesterday. Then, all of a sudden, today I was able to eat more. Of course, it was not even close to what I used to eat, but it was a lot compared to what I have been able to eat since the surgery. I have heard from several different band patients that the soonest I should receive a fill is anywhere from 6-8 weeks following surgery. Has anyone else here had a fill so soon after surgery? Should I cancel my appointment and reschedule? I NEED some advice. Thanks in advance for any feedback :))

I had my first fill at 7 weeks - is it your doctors standard practice to do them this soon? I also hear at least 6 weeks to heal.

I was banded on Nov. 8th and my first fill is scheduled for December 21st. Your fill does seem early but I'm new at all of this.

Maybe it depends on what size band you have. Mine holds 4cc and I currently have no fill. I have heard people on the board with the VG mention that they were given some fill during surgery. It never hurts to call your doctor's office and ask them for clarification. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I just posted this same question on the support board a few days ago, you might want to go read those replies also. I got my first fill today and I am not quite 5 weeks post op. My surgeon says anytime after 4 weeks. I have the 9.75cm 4cc capacity Inamed band and he put in 1 cc today. I only went ahead and got my fill because I had little or no restriction. I have eaten brisket, turkey, steak, etc... with no problems (of course, they were tiny bites chewed very well). If I felt like I had some restriction I would have waited on the fill.

I was banded on the 7th of Nov. and my first fill was set for the middle of Dec. around the 15th, but I had to push it up to the 8th because I will be out of town.

I was banded on November 16th and will be getting my first fill on December 14th. I was supposed to wait an extra week but I'll be flying out of town for Yule and wanted to make sure I was okay before I left. Don't want problems in a state where I don't know anyone!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
