My name is Danika. I am 20 years old and weigh 227lbs. I live in arizona, and I'd love a buddy to help me get through the starting process. I'm so lost already and I feel like I'm going nowhere. I've seen my Dr., gotten labs drawn, spoken to someone at the mayo clinic in Phx and am awaiting a phone call to get to a seminar and consult with a surgeon. I have called my insurance company who had little to no information for me. They would not give out any requirements information and I don't know where to go from here. Help?

Hi Danika. I'm Dawn. Sorry to hear you are having so many frustrating things happen. You are going in the right direction though. If you haven't heard from anyone at the Mayo Clinic within a week, I would make another phone call. Sometimes they tend to put you on the back burner.

As for your insurance company. That I don't understand. If I were in your shoes I would call and ask to speak to a Manager because they should be able to tell you what the requirements are to have the lapband surgery and even if Lapband surgery is covered under your insurance. It sounds to me like whomever you talked to was either to lazy and didn't want to do their job or they were in a hurry to get out of the office for the day. That's what happens when they hire people that don't know what they are doing. May I ask what type of insurance you have?

You will need to attend the seminar first before you can see the surgeon. After that, most of the time it's smooth sailing. Sometimes you have to fight with the insurance companies though.

Please feel free to add me as a friend or email me cc-dmtermini@comcast.net

I will try and answer whatever questions you might have. Good luck in your progress. I hope everything works out for you. Please keep me posted on what happens.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
