Possible eroded lap band :(

Recommended Posts

Hi folks let me give you a run down on whats been happening and i will ask for your opinions

back in march my Fluid was discoloured and i had new fluid put in and an extra .5ml

strait away i noticed my eating was painful passing through the band (a new sensation in 4 years)

i assumed the band was starting to work as i had only lost 20 pounds in 4 years.

so with in a few weeks food had lodged and i was being sick just saliva i was bringing up. i had a few ml taken out the band and i could drink Water again a few weeks later a blocked after food happened again and the remainder of fluid was taken out again it was discoloured so i am booked in for a scan with dye injected into the band and a swallow scan the doctor mentioned errosion as i am now fully drained and i still have 90% restriction find it dificult to drink coffee laying in bed at night i garrgle and make weird noises .

has anyone else had these symtoms?

many thanks

a chest x ray and a buran (sp?) swallow won't show the doc whether you have erosion or not. It will only show whether Fluid can pass through your pouch to the lower part of your stomach under the band.

I would request a endoscope where the doctor puts a camera down your throat into your stomach. This is the best way to check for erosion. Some doctors use this as a last resort because they can not do it themselves and must send you to another doctor to check, plus it is expensive to check.

I had erosion and my doctor who is qualified to do endoscopes checked me one day when i complained of a few hours of acid reflux. He found erosion the size of a pea. If he hadn't done that then we would not have found the erosion for a few more months ( when it would obviously have gotten worse) because I had no problem eating or drinking. It was really random and a complete surprise to find.

I hope that you figure out what is wrong and it can be fixed easily.

I suggest you phone and make an appointment. Often these surgeons don't get emails, they are so busy that they get dealt with (or not) by their admin staff.

what colour was the Fluid exactly? It seems like the only time there is discolored Fluid is when the port or tubing is leaking.

Hope you can figure this out. If I talk with my doc soon I'll ask him.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
