Finally 6 Weeks Post-Op!

Recommended Posts

I am super excited to start exercising! I know my Dr. said no sit-ups for the rest of my life (could flip my port)...but are there any other things I need to know, restrictions, etc? Are all other core exercises ok? I would hate to mess up my band!

Thanks for the info!

I was allowed to do crunches at 6 weeks, but I waited a little longer until I felt completely comfortable doing them.

No situps? That is one I've not yet heard. My surgeon turned me loose to exercise around 4 weeks or so. In fact, he told me there was no form of exercise I could do that would interfere with the band/port.

Dr. gave me a no go on sit ups. It's because your band actually can flip inside out. Saw some pictures. Crunches are fine but no full coming all the way up sit ups. I'm 5 weeks post op and enjoying every minute at the gym!! It's such a release....and I listen to motivational podcasts while i'm there. It's a double hitter!

So, I am 6 weeks postop today, and I want to do the C25K program. I am very worried about something dislodging or flipping due to the jarring of running. Most of you feel this is okay? I am really scared to do much. My surgeon did tell me I could do anything as long as there was no pain, but I do still have the fear. Maybe I just need reassurance, IDK?

Do you ever wonder the doctors are so varied on their opinions because either:

1. They simply do not possess the education

2. They stay in business by conducting surgeries

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
