Hi all!

Just wanted to take a quick poll and see what your "staple foods" are. These are foods that have never gotten stuck and always work well for you.

Then on the flip side what are the foods that fail you every time?

Thanks!:smile2:

I can eat anything if I'm reeeeally careful, although I don't really eat much steak or bread, rice and Pasta more from the diet angle. Oh - eggplant is one thing I can't get down. My staples are the obvious, I guess. Lots of fish including sashimi, Soup, oatmeal, cheese. Hmmm. Now that you mention it, I need some more! I'm curious about the responses you get.

Good:

Chilli, tuna and chicken salad, eggs

I agree I can eat almost everything if I am careful but those are staples of mine

Bad:

Any dry Protein

I try to stay away from staples. I think they'd hurt if you swallow them.

My staples are: eggs with cheese (I never have any trouble with that cheese as the magical binding force!), yogurt, cottage cheese, turkey sausage, turkey pepperoni, lettuce, Decaf diet iced tea (powder in my water).

Foods I avoid: [i do not have full restriction yet at 6ccs, and none of these have given me problems, but I don't want to wait to find out.] bread, rice, and then although they're sliders and would not give problems in all likelyhood, I stay away from Cookies, cakes, those tempting foods. I grab a chocolatey Protein bar if I'm really craving.

The only foods that gave me problems ever were a turkey burger once and some deli turkey once. Both are foods I've eaten again without problems.

The only thing I can't eat even to this day (a year later) is brocolli... It gives me severe gastric distress (think contractions, labor pains..ya that's it).. Didnt have the slightest issue before surgery..very odd... basics for me are:

tuna, Cottage cheese, Pinto Beans, Guacamole, Sour Cream (pair the last 3 and yum-o!) yogurt, steak, chicken, hamburger, I shy away from bread and Pasta only because it fills me up too soon and cant eat the good stuff, so i basically eat a Atkins type diet...So far so good!!! Good luck Ya'll

For me: refried Beans, salsa, cottage cheese, hummus, lentil Soup, split pea soup, eggs, chicken, fish, potatoes (I mashed it with oil and vinegar with baked chicken - aka "pauper's food") , frozen yogurt, yogurt.

I avoid: ice cream, fatty foods, steak, pork (on most occasions), bread, Pasta, RICE (im so sad about this)

I used to like drinking unjury, now I feel like puking just smelling it....damn shame. Im gonna try Muscle Milk lite. I guess its all about mixing it up.

I haven't found any "bad" foods yet in regard to getting stuck, but I really do try to stick to low fat, high Protein ... some of my favorites are chili, Protein Shakes, Lean Cuisine, the bariatric oatmeal and really any kind of fruit ...bananas, peaches and strawberries right now are really good.

Staples: smoked salmon, shrimp, crab, salmon, sashimi, chicken thighs, chili, salad, cheese, eggs, strawberries, grapes, watermelon, zuchini, yellow squash, greek yogurt, kefir yogurt drink, vegie burgers, corn tortillas, tamales, gluten-free crackers, gluten-free Pasta

Problem Foods: any type of bread or bun, flour tortillas, wheat Pasta (pretty much anything made w/wheat), corn on the cob, chicken breast, red meat, any meat/chicken/fish that is overcooked, dry, or chewy, sausage (the casing sometimes is too chewy and gets stuck)

I can eat most foods most of the time, and that includes bread, rice, pasta.

However there are very few foods that have never caused me discomfort.Sometimes I'm not even sure what food is causing the problem as I eat foods together not seperately.

Even my staples cause problems sometimes . The exceptions of course are sliders - they do not cause problems so yogurt, chocolate etc will always go down with no problem unless you are already stuck.

Part of learning to live with the band is also learning that it is not consistent. Tightness can vary from day to day. Sometimes it could be TOM, stress, dehydration etc.

The important thing is not to give up on a food because it has caused you discomfort once.

I, too, can run into trouble, some days, even with my staples. It seems that if it's a "get stuck" day, it's "get stuck" day---and even the most ordinarily innocuous things can catch me off guard.

My staples are Beans, chili, ground chicken (I have difficulty with it if not ground), most lean meats, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, other cheeses (in moderation--too much sat fat to eat as much as I want!), and most nonstarchy veggies. Broccoli is a problem for me unless I choose broccoli slaw--then it's just fine. (And that is a staple for me, too.) Most fruits are problem-free--even apple skin does not bother me if i chew it carefully.

I have not yet added whole grains back into my repertoire. That'll come when I hit 75% of my excess weight gone. I haven't missed them much, but will enjoy having things like polenta and wheatberries again.

Most food I can get down without much trouble if I am careful and chew really well but I do have some problem foods. Flour tortillas just don't feel good going down and bread doesn't either. I am really afraid to go out on a limb and try too many things because i'm terrified to get them stuck. lol

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
