Nervous about not being nervous

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon Everyone;

Next week at this time I will be in the hospital being banded. I have hardly given it a thought. I have done all my evals, had blood work and EKG. Tomorrow is my Pre-admit visit with the anathesiologist. Tomorrow I start my pre-op diet. With all of this, I don't feel the least bit anxious. I have done my research and I understand the whole process. I realize there will be some pain, gas, hungar, perhaps nausia.

I am aware that this is a life changing proceedure. A good change, but one that will take away some liberties from me. In exhange I will gain a full measure of health.

Some may say "Hal, What's your point?" I don't know, I just feel strange having so little emotion about this surgery next thursday.

I have read many posts of people who were nervous, or even terrified about this trip. Are there any like me? If you're out there please let' hear from you.

Regards

Hal

I was exactly like you. Just had my surgery two days ago. Was totally cool and relaxed the entire time.

Even as I was on the operating table and they were getting me ready I wasn't at all nervous. The doctors and nurses kept on commenting on how calm I seemed so I guess it is somewhat unusual.

Like you I did all my research and came to the conclusion that I wanted to take control of my bad eating habits, improve my quality of life, and that having the lapband was the best way to do this.

Now I'm two days post-op, feeling great, and down 33lbs since I started my liquid diet.

So yes, there are others like you. Keep up your positive attitude and you will do fine. Best of luck with your surgery!

I wasn't nervous at all. My husband was a little freaked out but I wasn't phased by it one bit. I was more uncomfortable than I had expected the day of and day after the surgery though. It's been a month and it's all a distant memory. Things are sailing right along.

Good luck!

Hi Hal,

I was like you too. I wasn't the least bit nervous. I was more anxious in getting the surgery done because I had to do the 6 months of supervised diet before the surgery. The day of the surgery I was very calm.

My mom and I were both banded a week ago and neither of us were nervous. I did hours of research before hand and knew it was what I wanted to do. The only nerves I had at all were when I was waiting for my approval from insurance.

I was banded last week (June 14th) and wasn't nervous either. I thought I'd get a bit antsy the weekend before, but it never hit.

My recovery has been INCREDIBLY easy and I have not had one minute of "bander's remorse."

Best of luck to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
