Just wondering just HOW rare it is that insurance covers plastic surgery for people that have had weight loss surgery. I'm specfically interested in tummy tuck/loose skin removal procedures rather than breast lifts/reductions but answer either way.

My Aunt had a breast reduction covered under her ins. recently, but none of mine was covered at all!

Hi:

Mine covered about 1/3 of a Tummy Tuck. They covered the panniculectomy part of it, but only because of medical reasons - rashes that were documented.

Good luck!

Sue

My insurance co covered it all. Only because I had the band. If i didn't have the band they wouldn't have covered it. They felt the paid for me to loose the weight with the band they will pay to take off the extra skin. I got really lucky!

May I ask who your insurance company is? My ins paid for my band completely too, so I'm wondering if they would pay for my TT. Maybe they would just take pity on me that I'm 20 and my stomach looks worse than women who give birth to 5 kids...and all I had in there was flub lol I can only hope.

WOW!!!! Lucky you...I paid for the entire $19,600 for my lower body lift and breast lift with augmentation and I would do it all over again

Good luck!

My insurance company will cover mine completely if I lose 80lbs or more (100lbs for a man). Two people from work had this done with the same insurance and it was no problem; they only had to pay their deductable and office visit copays. One lady had really extensive work done -- I think it's called a belt lipectomy and/or a lower body lift. All covered.

I will probably end up having to have a Tummy Tuck and would LOVE to have it covered. I'm sure hoping the insurance doesn't change before I can qualify!

I have developed a pannus after losing weight. I look worse now then I did before weight lose. Does this thing get smaller as I continue on losing or do I need to have it removed?

Has anyone tried Blue Cross and Blue Shield of ILL to cover plastic surgery? My daughter has done an amazing job of losing weight after her lap band. She has been overweight her entire life, but insurance covered her lap band when she turned 18. Soon to be college freshman, she wants a whole new beginning and I totally support her as long as insurance covers the surgery

My DH had TT after losing 170 lbs and most of it in his tummy. We found a platic surgeon who accepted his insurance (he has Medical Mutual). They took pictures, documented his rash and the insurance covered all except his deductibles and co pays. There were some specifics that had to be met... like how far the tummy hangs over the pubis. I don't know what the minimum requirements were. He had it done a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier with the results. He doesn't have the rashes and his ability to bend and walk was improved.

Most plastic surgeons' offices have staff who help with the insurance issues. Find a good surgeon in network and make an appointment.

I am just now starting to research cosmetic procedures, and physicians, hosp. cost and insurance.

My lapband is now 1 year old and I need to have some skin removed.

What insurance companies do yall have? My BC/BC-Anthem covered my band, but I have no idea about plastic surgery.

There are requirements, for example some require minimum 100 lb weight loss maintained 1 year. Documentation of rashes/boils, limited mobility. As far as I know, BC/BS only covers the excess stomach and breast reduction. Could be wrong, have been before. LOL Start with a good plastic surgeon who is in network, their staff should be able to assist you with the process.

I have BCBS of MN and just had a TT and Breast reduction and they cover all of it. I live and work in IL so not sure if it went thru IL or MN. Hope that helps.

Has anybody had a TT done at a military hospital and tricare covered it? They covered my band a year and half ago. Now I have a huge piece of flesh that hangs over my pubis.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
